Maryville nursing program

I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON MARYVILLE'S BURSING PROGRAM. I START IN OCTOBER TO START MY PRE-REQ'S AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS ABOUT THE PROGRAM. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR COMMENTS.:)

wow..as a pre-nursing student all of this "dropping" people scares me. Once you are "dropped" is that it for your nursing career or can you re-apply and try again? I would also question that if you tried several times and were dropped if maybe it wasn't the career for you and then what about all of all that tuition? Maryville certainly is not cheap.If they drop you this soon into the nursing part of the program do they prorate a refund?This sure is confusing and intimidating for anyone who is just beginning their education and hasn't even started the nursing clinicals!

I know Mcalvin!! I am petrified at the thought of flunking out after investing all that $$$. I do know that schools are tougher than ever and will not let you through if there's a possibility you will not pass the NCLEX on the first attempt. I think you get one do-over if you don't pass a skill at most programs. The problem with Maryville is that it will add an entire year to an already lengthy program (for WEC) while you wait for your session to become available again. This could also happen if you end up with a personal emergency/death/illness. I guess you just have to go for it and hope/pray for the best!!

Hello

I was attending Maryville WEC program until end of Spring 2011 semester. I did fine in pharm and pathophy but did not pass drug cal test (i only missed one question), so I have to retake lab next Spring 2012. I have to wait until then despite doing well in other coures.

that really is scary..I am gonna be really freaked out when it comes time for demos and testing..wouldn't it be easier to go elsewhere or do you fing yourself kinda stuck? Am I to understand that you can continue with everything else..just have to repeat that lab and if you pass it then you are good to go??

I can go ahead in program as long as I pass drug calculations/pharm lab. I passed the pharm part of course. I have friends now in Med-surg and several people did not pass their demos/sterile technique in lab. Not sure what will happen next.

I am frustrated. I am currently unemployed (still looking for work after 2 yrs). If I didn't have family near by, I think I would be tempted to move out of state (TX) economy, jobwise is much better than our area.

Before I can start back again, I have to get checked off on skills from Health Assessment class (had last yr and got A) before I can take pharm lab.

I am currently attending Maryville's WEC program and am looking into changing schools,I am being told by several different sources that it doesn't matter if you have an ADN or a BSN..four + years just seems like such a terribly long time..and then you run into a situation like this in which it would take even longer. It is very scary,confusing and frustrating for a newbie like myself to know what to do!

I decided against community colleges because the waiting list is too long (as long as 2-3 yrs) and against SLU (too expensive) and BJC (too far a drive).

Maryville's wait is 2 years too!! Everywhere that I have spoken to(SCC,STLCC ) is at least a two year wait to get in the nursing program..so initially I was like..well, if everywhere is a two year wait I might as well get a bachelor's..now I am like..that is such a long time..to just wait..and see..and then maybe get " dropped" or stalled ...what to do..what to do..so many decisions!

you are so right. Most people in WEC BSN program already have previous degrees, so a BSN makes more sense. If you don't, and are starting from scratch, it makes more sense to do a RN. The schools are a little less fail-happy, and you can always get your BSN faster in a bridge program than the original 4 yrs as a student BSN program. Makes no sense, but that's the way it is!!

I'm going to St Charles Community College this fall. The wait wasn't too long for me. I decided I wanted to be a nurse in summer of 2009 so I started taking the science classes that I had to repeat. Since my GPA wasn't good enough at the time, they told me to just apply and bring my GPA up. So this past January I took their dosage calculation test and got in. It wasn't that much of a wait because I wanted to take all the non nursing classes first. This way, I can focus strictly on the nursing classes. The "wait" list goes by faster than you think. Maybe you guys should apply.
