Thank You so much for the reply and all the useful information. I am just starting with my pre-reqs.I have changed schools and if all goes well I will start my clinicals next fall. I am hearing that unless you know someone it is really hard to even get a job as a PCT currently. I was thinking that when I start my clinicals that I may call around to hospitals and doctors offices to see if i could intern..just to get a variety of experience..but I don't know if that is even feasible?!

I live in Troy. I think that I have decided to go to HLGU..there is no "waitlist" and the drive would be comparable to going to any of the STLCC campuses with the traffic and whatnot. I could never get ahold of several departments at STLCC. I was told I would have to take an asessment test to see where I would place in math,science..etc.. I left several messages and they never returned the call. I hope that I have made the right decision..It is all very confusing at times. Sometimes you will hear that you need a BSN to get a job and then others will tell you that a ASN is fine. I guess it just depends.. but for now I am going to go to HLGU for my associates and then try and get a job and get a bachelors while I am working?!!

I have seen and heard conflicting information or whether it is better to have a associates or bachelor's degree in the current job market. I had an advisor tell me that it only equates to a 50 cent differece in pay. I have had current nurses tell me that it doesn't matter either. Then I have also been told that I would be eligible for more employment opportunites with a bachelors. I would just like to know what current nursing grads and or nurses in the St Louis Metro area think and what they have found. Any information will be greatly appreciated!

Maryville's wait is 2 years too!! Everywhere that I have spoken to(SCC,STLCC ) is at least a two year wait to get in the nursing program..so initially I was like..well, if everywhere is a two year wait I might as well get a bachelor's..now I am like..that is such a long time..to just wait..and see..and then maybe get " dropped" or stalled ...what to do..what to do..so many decisions!

I am currently attending Maryville's WEC program and am looking into changing schools,I am being told by several different sources that it doesn't matter if you have an ADN or a BSN..four + years just seems like such a terribly long time..and then you run into a situation like this in which it would take even longer. It is very scary,confusing and frustrating for a newbie like myself to know what to do!

that really is scary..I am gonna be really freaked out when it comes time for demos and testing..wouldn't it be easier to go elsewhere or do you fing yourself kinda stuck? Am I to understand that you can continue with everything else..just have to repeat that lab and if you pass it then you are good to go??

wow..as a pre-nursing student all of this "dropping" people scares me. Once you are "dropped" is that it for your nursing career or can you re-apply and try again? I would also question that if you tried several times and were dropped if maybe it wasn't the career for you and then what about all of all that tuition? Maryville certainly is not cheap.If they drop you this soon into the nursing part of the program do they prorate a refund?This sure is confusing and intimidating for anyone who is just beginning their education and hasn't even started the nursing clinicals!

I had looked into it as well..but, the one thing that detered me from it was the fact that their website states that there is no guarantee that your credits will transfer to another college/university/instution..etc if you wanted to advance your career anywhere down the road you would probably have to start from scratch.

Are you looking to go elsewhere? All of your credits will transfer? right? I am currently enrolled in Maryville's WEC pre-nursing..and I am looking to continue my education elsewhere..due to financial and time constraints! When I tried to withdraw from the fall semester so that I could focus on enrolling somewhere else I was persuaded out of withdrawal..but, I am still looking into other options!
