I noticed on the news that NASA wants to establish a colony in about 30 to 40 years. I wonder how the nursing shortage will affect the colonies health status. But on the positive side a mars position would look great on the resume.
As an OB nurse, I want to know who gives birth and how. Space nurse, that is so cool that you know all of this stuff. I am truly amazed. Just goes to prove there are some pretty diverse opportunities out there!
I'm not an OB nurse but imagine giving birth in low gravity would have some similarity with a water birth.???
How exciting it will be when the first baby is not born on Earth?
I hope to be alive when that is top news for the day!
People are too curious for it not to happen someday.
Maybe in my lifetime. Or yours.
When the Eagle landed the first human on the Moon my grandfather said, "I remember when the first sutomobile was news. I remember the Wright brothers flight in the newspaper. Now man is on the moon!"

Hi space nurse I noticed you mentioned all the physiological effects what about the behavioural differences. Who is going to monitor interplanitory sexual hangups or is that hang downs. lol sky blue great colour! dont forget to brush your teeth we should allways create a nice interplanitory welcome! Who knows we might need to ring home some day.

I think those on Freedom and the Mc Murdo Station, Antarctica would demonstrate the closest to some of the psychological issues.
Those who traveled across oceans before air travel and telephones had isolation from their original home.
Some would find it distressing that all space travelers need life support.
Exploration is very different from colonization. I think some people would go for each.
I don't doubt we humans will someday bring our sexual hang ups (downs?) to the solar system and eventually the stars if we survive as a species long enough.
Some already wonder about weightlessness. :wink2: :imbar

What do we Earthlubbers know? It may have already happened.
The National Space Society is an interesting resource. Local meetings in homes are fun.
Many scientists and engineers are very happy to explain ideas and research to mere enthusiasts like me.
They wouldn't need a suction machine on the space station or any off planet craft. Just engineer an outlet to the vacuum of space.
I wouldn't want to be outside on a space walk during oral care!
No not even with a suit.

I watched the moon landing on TV - It has always amazed me that we managed to put a man on the moon before we put wheels on luggage. Kind of makes you doubt that it ever really happened outside of a TV studio. If it had - why have we never returned - and what happened to all that stuff we left behind when we did? I guess I will have to ask my little green pts when I get up there. Count me in - I am up for an adventure!

As long as I don't have to wear white pants or cartoon scrub tops, I'm 'kewl!
I'll even wear a nursing cap under my space helmet (but not one of the older ones with the fur-fur frills- the cute ones!) before I wear white pants on MARS...: :balloons:
