Hi!
Just wanted to start one for Marquette University MSN Direct for Summer 2017 because I didn't see one. Did anyone hear back from them yet? Good luck to everyone who applied!
yeah you know the PM system is a bit complicated with allnurses, you have to submit a certain number of posts before you can PM... you can email me too [email protected]
Tweetto, I spoke with Karen Nest about whether we would receive something in the mail about our acceptance. She responded and said, "There will be a large email loaded with information about the program and what you will need to do."
She also mentioned that it might take a while to receive that email simply because the application process isn't over yet so I'm assuming we'll get it in a month or so.
:)
akphysio, I also have a scheduled call with my advisor from Marquette for the program. I'll update you once I get some answers. I just got my confirmation email today that my deposit went through so it's a done deal! I've been looking for apartments and I heard some of the neighborhoods around Marquette is not safe. So they said pay a bit more because it'll be worth it. Will you be doorming or looking for housing off campus??
Ok, so I spoke to my advisor this morning. We sit for the NCLEX after graduation which is the end of 18 months. You have the option of also sitting for the CNL if you want. Now a month before graduation you apply for your chosen specialty. However, it's not guaranteed because you would have to really prove yourself and do well during your GEM portion to get accepted into your specialty. After you get your RN License you can move forward immediately full-time or part-time into your NP specialty. But she said majority of the students pursue it part-time and work part-time. The NP portion for advanced practice is 2 full years for full-time. Now if you are pursuing the FNP certificate you would have to complete the NP portion which is 2 years plus an additional year to get the FNP certificate. Sounds like 5 years for me since I want the FNP. Such a long program... No orientation date yet, the start date for summer is May 15th and before the deadline there were 350 applicants who applied. As of now she said the number of applicants is way more than that and only 56 people will be accepted into our cohort for summer. Hopefully, this answers some of the questions we all had. She also said emails and packets for information won't be going out until a month or two later.

I'm trying to gain some insight on the format/route of the program. I'm hoping someone here can provide some clarity.
1.) Is the full GEM program 18 months and then we're awarded with our MSN?
2.) At what point are we able to take the NCLEX?
3.) At what point during the program can we apply to a post-masters certificate advanced specialty?
3.) Following 18 months how long before we can start an advanced specialty (I'm going for FNP) -Do they require a year of experience prior to NP study?
