Marquette University Direct 2017

Published

Hi!

Just wanted to start one for Marquette University MSN Direct for Summer 2017 because I didn't see one. Did anyone hear back from them yet? Good luck to everyone who applied!

I believe the start date is May 22nd. I found out the program is basically first come, first serve :( I may not get in, I applied the last day possible. I am in the last pool to be reviewed. So there are fewer spots available. I am in the first pool for Pleasant Prairie though, so at least maybe I will start in the fall...

miznance, by "last day possible," do you mean Dec 15th? Or had they extended the deadline? I am asking because I too applied on the last day (assuming the deadline had remained Dec 15th). Good luck!

Oh I didn't even realized that the date is before Memorial Day weekend. That's what my advisor told me. She could've made a mistake.

There is clearly some miscommunication somewhere: you were told May 15th, the website says the day after Memorial Day, and it looks like miznance was told May 22. Mhmm.

Oh my gosh I feel like this board is doing the exact opposite of what we intended! LOL Creating MORE confusion and LESS clarity!

Just curious. Did any of you consider Pleasant Prairie campus?

Yes, I guess they review in "pools", apparently I was assigned to one of the last pools. I'm pretty bummed.

Hey, for those of you who got accepted, how do you plan on affording the program. I'm trying to figure out a plan myself. The entire program itself is 50k. Each summer semester is about $8,500 in tuition and each Fall and Spring semester are $12,500 approx. The cost of living is close to $17k (I received all this info from financial aid yesterday by the way) as graduate students, assuming we've never done Masters course work before, have $20,500 per academic year available to us via federal unsubsidized loans. Our initial summer semester is considered a trailer semester since we didn't take out grad loans for the spring or fall prior this means we will be eligible to take out the entire $20,500 and apply it to our summer tuition and COA. Which is good.... But then the problem I'm realizing is during the new academic year starting this fall, we will get a new $20,500 but have to stretch that over the Fall, Spring, and next summer. So basically in my case I will have used up the loan money about mid way through the program having had to apply it to tuition and cost of living/attendance etc. This is where students typically take out private/alternative loans or the Grad Plus loan. Just curious if anyone is thinking about applying for this loan to help cover their tuition and additional costs that come with living in Milwaukee. I personally don't have the best credit and do not have a consigner... I'll apply and pray about it, but I'm very scared about not getting approved... I hope their are other opportunities to help pay for tuition :( Also, where is everybody looking to live? On campus/off campus? I'm looking everywhere but very unfamiliar with Milwaukee so i feel like I'm going in this blindly. I'll be moving there with my daughter so looking for 2 bedroom at least. Whewwwwww lots to do! May is right about the corner guys :)

I was going to apply for the grad plus loan because it's hard to get approve for private loans without a co-signer. I've applied to a few other schools besides this one and tuition is 150k. Can't believe federal loans only give us 20k. I heard that some areas around Marquette is not safe so I'm going to live downtown at one of the lofts. I can't dorm because I'll be bringing my dogs. Dorm will be the cheapest option though according to the rates they posted online.

Search for outside scholarships? You should definitely apply for the Nurse Corps Scholarship. I know I will be! . . On another note: I too, will be moving to Milwaukee with my daughter.

Tweetto, I've been looking at some of the lofts as well. Hopefully I get approved for the Grad Plus. I wonder when we can start applying for it?? Which brings to another question. Do you have any idea when Marquette will give us our financial aid package? And indeed, 20k is basically nothing compared to the costs of grad school.

randomizedrad, It's so good to hear that there's other moms out there! Great to know :) I'll have to google this Nurse Corps Scholarship.

& when do you guys plan to move? April? May?

randomizedrad, Thanks for letting us know! I'll look into that scholarship as well.

akphysio, I'm not sure. I think once you submit Fafsa it won't take too long for the award package. I'm planning to move in April so I can get acclimated before school start. However, I am waiting on a few more schools so I'm not sure yet. I'm bothered that it takes about 5 years for the FNP track.... I wish someone who's in the program can give us more info regarding this.
