Marquette Direct Entry MSN 2012

Published

Hi! Any Marquette hopefuls this app. cycle? I'm a little ahead of the game here but am too excited not to be =0) I'm applying to the CNM track!

Thanks Clovette!

Congrats on the acceptance! I'm really nervous now. I wonder how they're doing this...I thought they would wait longer also to send a second round..

of course i had to ask...

this is the response i received from the school... (it still leaves me a little confused)

"hi,

no more denials were sent. i believe this group was still considered part of the first round."

Lol! Thank you, sunny. Def. confusing..

I agree, Marquette wins the confusing award so far. I am complimented to hear I may have been considered part of the first round. I still have considerable reservations about spending $50,560 and not have a guarantee I'd get into the midwifery program. That much money isn't worth it to me to find out I can only get into some specialty I don't want.

It is a roller coaster after all...

Marquette...why must you leave us with such cryptic answers?! Haha maybe this has been just as confusing for them too with so many applicants..

Maybe the first group of 58 weren't all notified at once and they broke it into 2 groups...

Strange. I'm just grateful it wasn't a full second round at this point.

Or, there is not real method to this madness and they are like me sending out publication acceptance memos at work. I try and get them out in one day, but it always ends up spreading out over a week because I have lots of things to do - including haunt this site.

FWIW, Marquette has two job openings posted for the CON that look like Midwifery clinical instructor positions, as if the plan were to expand the program.

I also got the email today saying I have been accepted and as if I was already a bit unsure about not being guaranteed the midwifery specialty, they said it will take 3-4 years for the master's portion. I had heard they basically force you to go part time during those years, but this definitely makes it seem like there is no possibility to go full time. Which for me is a major negative. I know 24 isn't that old, but the longer time I spend in school equates to longer time before I am out in the field as a CNM. Just my own personal thoughts on it, because I know for some this is a huge plus for the program.

And I know they just got a federal grant to expand their midwifery practice, so that could be part of the reason there are those job postings. Aaaand, a while back there was a post about someone wishing they hadn't talked all about midwifery in their personal statement. Rest assured, my whole statement was very heavily focused on midwifery. Maybe a sentence here or there about general nursing.

Good luck to everyone else, and I hope word comes sooner rather than later!
