Hi,
I'll be applying this cycle as well. I'm finishing up with A and P 2 this upcoming semester and am SUPER excited! I have quite a bit going on right now as I'll be giving birth in the middle of January so will be juggling quite a bit. I just got off the phone with the financial aid department!!!
How exciting (the babe and school =0)! Are you applying for the CNM track then, too? How is A and P going for you? Do you live in WI?
Thanks! I'm going back and forth between adult and pediatric primary care, but I know I want primary care for sure. A and P 1 was taken during the Summer and was a doozy...but I ended up with an A-. I start 2 on Thursday (so wish me luck). I live in Milwaukee what about you?
Good for you and good luck!! I am in Portland, Oregon. I chose Marquette mainly in part to the lack of GRE requirement. I graduate in March with my B.S. in Community Health and Health Sciences and I have already completed all of my pre-reqs but I want to put that test off for as long as possible (and hopefully forever, lol)! I have researched Milwaukee quite a bit and it looks like a neat city!!
Yeah, I think Marquette is a great school with a great reputation. I totally understand about the GRE. I graduated with an Englisg degree in 2005, took the GRE last year and didn't even FINISH the Math portion. (I really should have have studied more)...Luckily I had a 3.7 for undergrad and I don't need those GRE scores!

Hi! I'm applying to Marquette, too! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought we didn't apply to a specialty until the spring of our prespecialty year? I am also interested in nurse midwifery, but can we declare that already??
Hi blackbird,
I was under the same impression that you are. I also heard that upon initial application we are to note which specialty we would like as a pre-curser. Not exactly clear. I've basically filled out my online application and can't remember if there was a place there to note a specialty. I don't think there was however.
So did you address your intended specialty in your goals statement? Or did you just talk about advanced practice nursing in general? Because I have a goals statement for other schools that basically talks about my goals as a CNM... I was thinking I would have to revise it for Marquette (and Emory is the same way as well....), but I just wanted to see what other people are doing for theirs...
I haven't yet submitted my goal statement. I wrote it a while ago and have to find out where it's hiding on my hard drive! I think I might have brought up something about primary care however. I am waiting on one more letter of recommendation and then I'll tidy up the rest of my application (by finding what I need to find).
Hmmm... My goal statement is very focused on Midwifery. While I wrote a bit on how I came to nursing I mainly discussed my goals as a future CNM. Now I am wondering if I should revise. I know that they don't "guarantee" placement in your #1 specialty choice so I would hate to ruin my chances because I focused so much on one specialty. What do you all think I should do? I have worked SO hard on this one and am really proud of it but if I should change it I def. will!!
Mine is basically the same structure as yours: about midwifery, with a bit about how I came to be interested in nursing. I also discussed my goals as a CNM, not necessarily as a nurse (even though it's about the same...). I have worked hard on mine and really don't want to restructure the whole thing either... Maybe I will call the admissions office to see what they have to say about it.
