What is your take on the issue of legalizing marijuana?
If someone has to have a substance such as alcohol or weed to make them happy, then yes that is the sign of a problem.
Yes, if they do need those substances to make them happy then they do need help. But usually when most of us have a few drinks we get that "happy feeling" I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. We dont need it, but most of us have a drink or two to help us relax, have a good time, and so forth. That is exactly the same thing as smoking a joint, same effects.

Ah, not really. If i drink a Jack and Coke, you don't feel the effects when i'm the one drinking it. Someone else smoking weed, and if i'm in the same room with that person, there's the second hand smoke which i would be breathing in. There's definately a difference.

Thanks Marie. Glad to know someone out there believes me.
Scientists have also proven that there is no physical dependence to the drug and very little psychological effects. People do it because it makes them happy :rotfl:
:rotfl:
Same reason they use meth or coke or any other mood-altering substance. I personally know many folks who are dependant on pot and it does have psychological effects. Makes them lazy, uncaring parents who would rather get high than take care of their kids. Makes them stupid enough to get in a car and drive and cause an accident. Makes them stupid enough to choose the high over their spouse, job, family.
Yeah, no negative effects at all. Just a fun little drug. No big deal.

'Health benefits' and 'marijuana' do not belong in the same sentence.
Are you speaking from personal experience? Have you personally known a family member or close friend with a terminal illness that has no appetite or cannot keep any food down unless they use a little marijuana to quell the nausea or stimulate their appetite? No need to make judgemental, general statements.
:rotfl: You're too funny. I knew an alcoholic who would pass out and soil himself. Ick! I suppose what others are trying to say is that Weed is no different than alcohol and I would venture to say that anyone who gets that trashed on anything and soils themselves, really has no self respect anyway.Oh, I forgot getting so stoned that they fall asleep so hard that they pee all over themselves and the floor on which they landed.Yeah, just have the little woman mop that up in the morning and wash your clothes and throw your sorry orifice in the shower. Yeah, fun city

It is my understanding that there are legal ways to do this. Pot is not the only answer out there.
I'm prejudiced - I'll admit that - coming from a family of addicts. Plus working in OB and seeing the results of illegal drug use (and alcohol use) on babies. I really think the whole legalize pot lobby is not really for sick patients but so that potheads can smoke pot without getting in trouble.

I still wouldn't call the effects of marijuana a health benefit.
And actually, yes, i have known terminally ill people (my best friend as a matter of fact) who used marijuana to ease his nausea, to help him eat. I agree with this kind of marijuana usage, and i agreed with it long before he ever got sick. I don't, however, agree with it being legal for recreational use.
And my statement was not judgemental or general, so do not label it as such, thank you.:)

By the way. I get alot of my information on research from JAMA. All you have to do is get on the JAMA site and search for what you want. PubMed is a real good site with published research also.
