Maricopa community colleges-5 choices-which option were you placed?

Published

Hi all;

Out of your five placement options, with which one did you get placed? Or if you opted for less than that, did you get placed into your 1st or 3rd option, for example? Just curious. Thank you

I'm CEP and I got my second choice. I only got to choose 3.

Specializes in Neuro/ENT/Plastics.

I had 5 options and got accepted into my fifth choice. Turns out it was the school with the biggest class size.

Specializes in Renal, Diabetic.

I got into my 3rd option. It was a blessing, I think, as I really enjoy my class and the instructors.

Specializes in L&D, Trauma, Ortho, Med/Surg.

I am CEP - I got my first choice.

I am getting ready to apply for CEP also. Do you have any advice for me; how long did you wait to start? I switched from Dental Hygiene program at MCC after a nightmare experience. That schedule was Mon-Thu 1:00-4:15 lectures, then patient care in clinic at A.T. Still University from 5:00-9:00 also Mon-Thu. Then we had clinicals on Thurs am and sometimes all day Friday. It was a LOT of hours at school roughly about 32+ not counting student gov't meetings and externships that were 4-9 hrs each. I was used to working about 55 hrs a week so it wasn't as much of an adjustment for me personally or for my family. But there was little time during the week to study and prep for daily exams and skill evals.

Can you tell me what your schedule is too please? Thanks so much I really need insights ASAP. :-)

Can anyone give me somewhat of a current run down on the community college programs (pros/cons) and class sizes? I am applying for CEP to get associate's and do online classes with ASU to get bachelor's at the same time. Any advice, recommendations, and experiences that you can share are greatly appreciated.

Also, since I am 45 and ran into some age discrimination in my previous major I'm just curious if the classes have a variation in student's age? I don't feel or look my age (as I'm told lol) but I hope to never hear the negative comments I heard in Dental Hygiene ever again. Especially since we pay for our education and work out tails off to get into a program. I know it's hard work, and I'm willing to go the extra mile to achieve my goals!

Thank you!

Thank you!

There is information regarding number of students each school takes Google maricopa nursing.

I'm in gcc evening and we have a large range is student ages.

I am also and ASU CEP student and I'm just finding it to be more busy work on the university end. Papers, Discusion Boards, and power point presentations.

Good luck!

I am starting with NAU this week (gcc weekend in fall) so I can't help with program info much.

But I am 39. I started out at 18, and not really sure about what I wanted in life - got married, started a family and finally figured it all out while staying at home with my kids all these years. I am excited to get after it and I could care less what others think of my age! Personally, I feel that my life experience has put me in a great position to do better in School and clinicals compared with my 18 year old self.

I can only speak for GWCC (I'm about to start block 2 with UIU CEP) but my cohort had a huge age range. No one really cares about your age - at least in cohort. I agree with Mrs. B (as usual :) ) that CEP is busy work. Lots of papers and discussion posts. If you can manage your time well, CEP isn't horrendous. The Associate's portion is a lot of time, but not as much as the program you spoke of. At GW (evenings), we go 2-3 days a week from 5:30-9:30 PM. It is difficult, but if being a nurse is something you want, you can do it! I'm 20, married, and have an 11 month old. It's tough, but I want it so bad that it's doable!

I went to Scottsdale CC. The class had 90 students in block 1 and the ages varied. There was quite a bit of people that decided they wanted to be a nurse around the same age you did. I never noticed any discrimination among the students or instructors. We were all there for the same end result, and everyone worked together to get to that. As for SCC, I thought the program was difficult, but worth the hard work. They have something like a 97% success rate on NCLEX, so you know you'll be prepared. Class days change each semester, but it was typically 2 class days and a clinical day, which could be on the weekend. There were also additional days scattered in through the semester for clinical learning activities.
