March 2012 CHLA RN Residency Program

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey everyone,

is anyone applying for March 2012 RN residency program at Children's Hospital Los Angeles??

Does anyone have a sense of how many folks were invited to the round two interviews? If you got a 2nd interview, what's the probability of actually landing a position at this point? I'm assuming your chances are greatly improved, but then we've also heard that some units are only hiring internally, others aren't...any thoughts??

Good luck to everyone who's moving on in this process :yeah:

Hi,

I have no idea how many were invited for round two. It must vary by unit. I had my round two interview for 6 West this past Thursday and I did feel like the chances of getting all the way through were greater, but I really have nothing to base that on, except for the fact that getting to go to round two is a good sign. I did ask how many they were planning on hiring (6) but didn't ask how many were getting second round interviews for the unit.

It might be worth it to note that I'm not an internal applicant.

Hope this helps!

Hi, I have a 2nd interview for the PICU this week. They said for the PICU, there are 11 applicants for 2nd interviews and 6 positions for this unit. I think you're right, it varies by unit. Good luck everyone!

A friend of mine who works in health care said it was pretty standard to call in about double the number they were looking to hire -- so interviewing 11 for 6 positions on PICU sounds about right. Probably a little better than 50% chance of hiring?? That's pretty good odds! :p

Good luck!!!!

Hi All,

For those who have had their 2nd interview (with the managers), Congrats!! and would you be okay with sharing what the 2nd interview was like? Did they ask clinical questions? Is there anything in particular that one should prepare for?

Has everyone already found a place to live? I'm having trouble finding a place, any recommendations?

Hey peds_nurse9, there's apartments near the hospital (it's the los feliz area)- that's a pretty good area. I'm planning on commuting but I have been researching (just in case the traffic gets to be a bit much) and on LA Times website you can search different neighborhoods in LA and get information about them: Mapping L.A. - Los Angeles Times. Good Luck!

Also, for anyone that completed the new hire paperwork, I have a question...the papers we received about setting up direct deposit, completing new hire curriculum, and setting up our benefits- on each of those websites, you need an employee id to do anything (login, etc). Should I have received one after completing the paperwork, or am I getting ahead of myself? I still have to go back and return the orientation quiz, so will I receive one then? Thanks!!!

Thanks shananagins :)

When I went down for the paperwork, the person at HR said we'll be getting our employee id 'at a later time.' He didn't say exactly when, but they'll give us more information about the new hire curriculum during our orientation. So I'm guessing they'll probably give us our id and more details then also.

Are you going to the welcome luncheon tomorrow?

Hi guys. I am just curious. For anyone who got an interview/job with CHLA, are they really strict on the 500 word limit for the Letter of Intent? Thanks.
