U.S.A. California

Hey everyone,

is anyone applying for March 2012 RN residency program at Children's Hospital Los Angeles??

I was told I wouldn't hear anything until December. There were 6 spots on the unit and they were interviewig 8. I heard that 4 were being given to internal applicants.

I had my preliminary interview on the 15th. (They're really nice and it isn't too bad.) My first choice is the PICU, and I'm from the Bay Area. They said that they're doing preliminary interviews through Nov 28, then calling people about the second interview with nurse managers soon after that. Second interviews will be at the beginning of December, and they hope to call about final decisions before Christmas. Hope this helps!

I have no idea about how many people applied, how many got 1st interviews, etc. Anyone know about this?

I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are... One of the managers I interviewed with was my preceptor during my peds clinicals and had been emailing her prior to knowing she was going to be part of my interview. I wrote thank you cards to all the managers in the room, but was wondering if it would be appropriate to send an email to this same manager to kind of feel out how my interview went.

Had my interview on the 10th for Acute Pediatric Rehabilitation. Great unit and it would be amazing to work with the patients that they get. Good luck to those who also interviewed with them!

has anyone interviewed for CTICU yet?

I had my interview this past week and found out something interesting. If you are in fact hired and accepted into the Versant program, you may have the option of working as a PCSA (patient care service aide- the equivalent to a CNA) until the start of the program which is March 5th. I thought this was great news for those who are hired but need to work in the mean time. Of course, I think this also depends on the unit you are hired for and if they have openings for pcsa. But, it's something you can ask about during your interview!

Since I didn't know about this option until my text chat, I went ahead and applied for the PCSA position that was posted for the unit today. We'll see where this goes.

For those who have interviewed already, was it a behavioral interview where they want specific examples of past behavior? Or did they ask more typical interview questions?

Thanks & good luck everyone :D

It was a mix. I'd suggest you take a look at the many threads on here w/ nursing interview question advice & prepare accordingly. Competition is fierce, so be ready for everything & anything -- & try to figure out ways to make your talents stand out no matter what "type" of question is asked.

Good luck!!

So for my department I was told that all those hired were internal.

PS: What a bummer to go through all the work & then they only hire internally in the end...Good luck on the rest of your search!!
