This is a thread for all of the people that are going to BOLC at Ft. Sam Houston in March 2011. Feel free to ask questions, make friends, etc.

Is anyone concerned about the PT portion of training? I just received my acceptance last week which only gives me a month and a half to really train. Does anyone have any workout suggestions? Thanks!

I have been training for a year! Google "Couch to 5K" for the running plan I used. :)

sooo....my blankie and teddy bear are cool though right? ;)

You laugh, but I never go anywhere overnight without my poncho liner.

LOL .... my husband (former 11B) always keeps a poncho liner in the back of his Jeep! :D

Hi guys, I'm 72D and crashing your board for the same reason as AshleyOT :) I also went ahead and bought everything already, don't want to hassle with it it there...even if they have my size in stock, the rush on clothing sales doesn't sound fun!

Besides your orders, have you had any email/correspondence regarding the course?

Does anyone even have orders yet?....im still waiting. And i have been bugging the snot out of my recruiter so i think he is ignoring me. PT question random thought...so i tested myself and i pass all areas except for the situps. I need to do minimum of like 50 and at 25 my hip flexors feel like theyre tearing. How are you guys preparing for situps?

Nothing yet ... I'm hoping very soon, because I want to give notice by Friday of this week so that I have a little extra time off before I leave!

This is when I'm glad to be old -- I only have to do something like 38 situps. :D Of course, I'll go for a higher number...

RNburnout, I would recommend practicing sit-ups in a modified position to start. Possibly wedge your head up so you aren't coming all the way down after a sit-up in order to avoid stretching your hip flexors completely. Or even stretching them prior to by getting into a position of hip hyperextention. Yes sit-ups are for abs but we all know that the hips get hit hard as well. I try to concentrate on contracting my core as much as possible to take the load off my hips especially because I have a previous pelvic injury.

Lunah, thanks for the Couch to 5k suggestion!! My mile is now down to 9 mins so far. Just a little bit more to go!!

My recruiter said my orders are in the mail and my report date is 23 March.

AshleyOT...thanks i will try that. Lunah...im envious! I will turn 27 while there which will put me in a different bracket...you think they will round up my age;-)

Dang, I'm glad I don't have to run less than a 9-minute mile! Running is not my strength, as you can imagine ... at 4'11" (hey, one inch above minimum, haha!), my legs are short. I started early on the running (last December) so I'd be okay by BOLC in case I was selected. I'm glad I did!

The latest I've heard on my orders (via email today) is that my request for orders has been submitted, and that I'll get them as soon as they're processed. What does that mean, anyone know? Does it mean "hush now, you'll get them when you get them," or is that secret code for "they're about a week out"? Any clues/insight would be great ... ;)

I've had my orders for over a month... but then again my AOC only has a once a year board and I was selected back in November... so it took a while between selection and orders.

LunahRN, it should mean your orders have been passed up your branch for approval. It took me about a week between my branch manager saying she submitted them and receiving them (via email).

As far as situps...I actually found once my quad strength increased my situps improved! Throw in some squats into your workout and it will improve your run and situps :) I did exactly what LunaRH did and started getting back in shape when I submitted my packet a year ago... I was really out of shape.

Ooooh, thanks for the helpful info/translation!! I like that a lot better than it meaning "you'll get them when you get them," which is what I thought. ;)
