This is a thread for all of the people that are going to BOLC at Ft. Sam Houston in March 2011. Feel free to ask questions, make friends, etc.

You read my mind! :) I was thinking about starting a thread like this ... thank you!!
I am driving to BOLC from Virginia. Yay, road trip! I want to have my car with me. I cracked up at the list of things to NOT bring to BOLC: family, pets, and weapons.
Well there are some people that have never been exposed to military life, that think Rover can stay with them....or that Nemo's bowl will be fine in the tent as long as it is not in direct sunlight
On a serious note, I would like to drive too. Last time I went to SA for a class I split a rental with a few classmates. I would rather not have the hassle. There are a few more places I would like to visit. I am so glad to be going when the weather is nice:)

Having your car is a must. About the "do not bring" items, you will be surprised how many knuckle heads go against the rules.
Do not bring your family while at boloc. You will not get paid family separation and other entitlements if they find out or if you do say they are in the same quarters as you. You could get in trouble and your career will be short.

sooo....my blankie and teddy bear are cool though right? So anyone else out there who wears contact lenses and how are they going to deal with field training? I hear we cant wear them to the field. I am a constant contact wearer and dont know how i am going to handle bright sunlight my pop bottle glasses and no sunglasses. Change subject...i go to get my uniforms next week with a group of folks. What is the running total that you guys are paying out?
you will be fine with the contacts but bring the glasses. the contacts are a no no when it is windy and sandy like in the sandbox. keep your retinas safe.
on the acu's but 2 sets and you will be fine to start with. what is gonna cost you is the blues.

I dropped about $1000 on my uniforms, but I got just about everything, even winter PT gear
lunah...did that include your blues too?
Yep! The dress blues were the most expensive part, I think the jacket was $175. Oh, and let the tailor there do your alteration - I wouldn't trust a civilian tailor to get things all right!

Hey RN's! I'm an occupational therapist sneaking onto the nurse page because there's barely any OT's chatting about OBC. I'm attending the March training as well. Wasn't sure whether or not to get the uniforms now or in Fort Sam when I get there. I'm coming from DE so I'm flying out there but I'm going to buy a car and rent an apartment when I get there because I'll be schooling at Fort Sam until Dec 2012.

I'll be leaving for S.A. ahead of time. I keep getting different perspectives about getting our uniforms right before. Some say there weren't enough items for them to get when they went during BOLC & some say they had plenty when they went....soooooooo. Unless I have time to get them at another base somewhere before BOLC, I'll be screwed if there aren't enough sizes for when I get to S.A.!
I'll be bringing my own truck because it's just as expensive getting a rental.
My dog is coming with --but to be babysat by a friend while there, ha. I have nobody to watch her in NM. Then I'll be coming back to NM, packing up, & then moving back to TX at least until my precision course is done...we'll see :).
We will have weekends to explore together!!!
I'd get your uniforms now. One less thing to worry about, right?? :)
Ashley, welcome to the March BOLC thread! I can't wait to meet everyone. This is going to be awesome.
