many rejection letters crying all day..

Specialties CRNA

I applied to 4 schools and received interviews at 3 so far went to one back in oct. and received denial letter few weeks later from Trover/Murray state. Was quite a blow but really felt like that was not the school for me. Interview process was really stressfull and was my first so I did not shine. My next interview was at CAMC/Marshall University and I loved the school and enjoyed the whole interview process was so relaxed and felt confident. Then I got an interview at Cincinnati I went to that and also liked the school and felt I had a good interview.

Just received denial letter from Cincy and now a letter from CAMC that they are going to hold my application till feb.. This is killing me.. I just dont know what else to do to make my self a better candidate?????//

I have one more application out there and that is to University of tennesse in Knoxville and I believe they interview in march. I am nervous should I apply to more schools???Or wait and hope on CAMC??? I really liked CAMC....

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am retaking the GRE in January to help out at CAMC.. They suggested that.

I know after 18 years as a critical care nurse being a CRNA is what I am meant to be but getting into school is quite a challenge.. Thanks for any help... SUE

sue,

you still have time if you want to start this year ( 2004 ). There are still few schools that have deadlines around Feb and March. TCU, TWU, LSU and the one is St. Louis MO.

im waiting for my interview and hope to get in.

goodluck.

Thanks Xigris.. Which schools have you applied?? Is this your first? Wish you luck.. I am now looking at a few of those later schools and hope to send a few more applicants.. thanks neat name xigris.. why that???

Sue,

Sorry it has been tough so far. The application process can be brutal, but it is worth it. Hang in there. Improving your GRE scores can help as well as brushing up on interview skills. When I was getting ready for my interview, I surfed interviewing websites for advice on how to answer questions. When I got the inevitable questions about why I wanted to go, my biggest weakness, etc, I was prepared. Practice your answers to these questions ahead of time. It really helped me. Keep your chin up and don't put all of your eggs in one basket. You'll get in with a positive attitude, it worked for me. The best of luck to you. J

I know just how deflating a rejection letter can. For the past two years I have received those letters and all I could do was just keep on plugging away and getting more valuable ICU experience. It may not be that you were a bad candidate but just not quite what they were looking for THAT year. I was told that the type of candidate that a school is looking for changes year to year. There are always things our there to do in the mean time to put on your resume for next year. Do some shadowing and have them write you a letter stating you were there, get more involved with committes at work/do some research, and get your CCRN if you don't already have it. I finally got accepted into the KU Med. center program after 3 attempts. Stick to your dreams and they will happen. If anything show determinance that this is what you want to do and that will show character and personality more than anything. Good luck and know that we are all here for you!!

Thanks so much.. I will keep on applying until I get in..

I KNOW THAT THIS HAS GOT TO BE TRAMATIC FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU FEEL VERY DISCOURAGED RIGHT ABOUT NOW, BUT I ADMIRE YOU FOR KEEPING YOUR HEAD UP IN A TIME LIKE THIS AND I AM HAPPY THAT YOU ARE GOING TO STAY FOCUSED. WRITE THE DIRECTORS, FIND OUT WHAT'S THE PROBLEM (IF IT'S NOT THE GRE SCORES) AND REAPPLY, REAPPLY, REAPPLY!!! I AM SO PROUD OF YOU FOR CONTINUING TO STRIVE FOR YOUR DREAM.:kiss

Thanks so much for the encouragement. It has been very hard . I have never had to interview and apply like I have for this. But through this all I have become even more determined that I want to be a CRNA. I will keep you all posted... I applied to 3 more schools this week and their still are two that have july deadlines which I will apply if necessary.. Good luck to you too... thanks:eek:   :D :D

PLEASETAKEME,

If you want to expand your application net, try cleveland, OH, SUNY, NY and Webster University, MO.

now, cleveland and Webster are sort pricey.

you still have some opportunity to get into a program for this year 2004.

good luck.

Thanks so much ... I just sent in 3 more applications. Arkansas State University, University of Penn and UNCC and then 2 more schools with july deadlines for January starts... So I will get in somewhere... Hopefully...

I think BRANDY hit it right on the head. I suggest you follow what LONDON said. But remember that if you already interviewed at those mentioned schools then you must already look good on paper( experience, GPA and other needed items prior to interview) , So, I think the itch maybe be the interview. Beef up your interview ability. Try practicing infront of the mirror and do it aloud. Try to remember the questions that they asked you during your past interviews. I was happy to learn that you felt more relaxed from one interview to the next that means you learned from the previous one. Ask a friend or a family member to interview you and then rate you very honestly, build on those weak spots. Remember admissions committee members were also in your very same spot many years back so the understand the anxiety you maybe going through. They may be looking for how you cope with at anxiety, you current clinical knowledge( ICU experience) ,

thought process ( problem solving), expect them to maybe ask you a question which you would not know the answer, (honesty test) and then they maybe some personal questions.

Remember you are critical care nurse, you are used to intense environment, you will do just fine, hang in there.

Thanks Air..

Yes I have learned from each interview I have went to. I have gone to 3 now of the first 4 schools I applied. The first was the worst but I felt pretty comfertable in the last 2. I practice in front of my husband of 11 years whom knows me best and isnt afraid to say is that the best you can do?? I am very excited about my new choice of careers and wont be detered. It just may take longer than I had originally planned . But I am building character and getting more and more confident in my speaking abilities. ICU has taught me well to make split moment life and death choices but to dress up and talk all about me is new ... Are you a CRNA? Are you trying to go to school too? Thanks again...:D :D :D

PLEASETAKE.

I am not a CRNA.

I am fortuante to be accepted into a program that would start fall of 2004.

just hold steady on your determination, You will get in. There are other choices out there still for this 2004 if your circumstances allow you to flexible enough to move to where you get accepted.

I had initially plan on fielding 21 applications to increase my chances, but I ended up sending out 5 only. I had preferences for programs less than 27 months, with clincal sites that do not have competition with med residents, and integrated programs. I was very willing to waive any preferences just to get in for this year. Just like somebody had mentioned, "...you can move to go to school and move back out of that area after you graduate."

I am not sure but I guess I can not even attach the SRNA title to my name until I start the classes.
