Does anyone know of an actual USCIS source which tracks the number of remaining green cards of the 50,000? I want to find out how many are left.

Does the 50,000 represent past applicants that are in que, or is there a surplus for new applicants?

is it safe for the applicants who filed the petition last year to catch the 50k ?

thank you very much!

  • [color=#400080]aila has reported that there remains 20,000 number for this fy 2006 and ex will remain current until september 30, 2006. however, the state department intends to set a cut-off date for schedule a visa category of ex in the first quarter of fy 2007. retrogression will be no longer other immigrant categories' agony at the end of this year unless the congress acts!!
  • [color=#400080]no one knows how steep the retrogression will be. schedule a retrogression will result in three consequences, among others: (1) those schedule a waiting for 485 application decision will face delays in the green card application after the retrogression and until the visa number becomes available again. (2) schedule a concurrent i-140 and i-485 filing will be not available during the period of retrogression. only stand-alone i-140 petition will be available during the retrogression. (3) eb-3 will experience added pressure in terms of the available visa numbers.
  • [color=#400080]those who are working on the schedule a cases should accelerate the "concurent" filing such that at least they can take advantage of ead and advance parole during the retrogression.

aila is still not immigration, it is an association of immigration lawyers, so these are only expected figures, nothing is in stone unless it comes from the government directly. things can change on a moments notice.

Actually their (immigration lawyers) sources are from the DOS Visa Office. The DOS Visa Office was the one that supplied them the news that Schedule A visas based on their calculations would be exhausted by the first quarter of the fiscal year 2007.

Actually there are pending bills in the Senate. Let's just pray that those bills get passed.

hi zathan, what are those pending bills about? general immigrant visas? employment based visas? any idea?

1. Frist Bill known as Seceuirng America Border's Act contains provisons that increases the Employment Based category from 140,000 to 290,000 possibly eliminating retrogression for all employment based categories.

2. Brownback Amendment to remove Schdule A from the rest of the Emloyment Based Categories so that they will have NO NUMERICAL CAP.

If you still recall STILL_DALE predicted that Schedule A visas would be exhausted around December 2006. Guess he was right!

thanks zathan...that was very informative......

any ideas when those two bills were filed in the senate? anytime frame when both might be implemented or trashed?

It is being debated. Check http://www.shusterman.com for details about this bill.

so lets say if i am still to take the nclex on may and i passed.. together with the ielts.. is still still safe to file by then or will i be affected by all of this fear of exhausting the 50K visas?

thanks for the info..
