just kind of wondering what others have experienced-did a lot of people drop out, or fail the first semster and not come back in your freshman class? people keep telling me 1st year is weed-out time, sooooooo-what do you think? :)
At my CC each first class starts with 36. Right now we are at 28. We have lost some of our original group and had some rotate in. I anticipate losing at least one more this class, I just don't think she can recover from her grade on the first test... I hope to God I make it through! This is a tough one!
The graduating photo from last March had 17 students in it. It is getting to the point where it is very difficult to lose people because we have really gotten to know each other over the last year. I am very sad to see some go.
Sorry, I should have been more specific. In a small program such as the one you have (only 20 students), then that isn't the case. Since it's such a small number to begin with, they need to make sure that they are retaining students LOL. But in a program of 120, well, I already described what happens. I have a friend that's in administration, and this is exactly what she described happens. The school has to meet certain quotas.
Oh, one other thing. This only applies to public schools. Private schools actually rely on heavy tuition costs paid by its students to operate, so they actually want to keep as many students as possible, but that IS their funding.
It's getting toward the end of the first semester for my class and so far we are still intact. We are all aware of what could happen, though. Sometimes if a few students are late and there are several empty seats when class is about to start, one of the students will say, "Oh my gosh" in fear that "it" has happened.
I graduated with almost everyone that was there the first day of class minus one girl that got pregnant after second semester, one girl who's husband got transfered after first semester, and one guy who decided to go into OT after second semester. Only one girl failed, and not until 6th semester and it was her second try. She is still trying to fight it.

My class had 20 to start, 1 never made it to orientation, 1 where her father was very sick (he was the primary caregiver when she was working/school) 1 just a few weeks ago, 1 is in serious danger of failing. We are adding an LPN to the group after January, so 17 left-16 of the original 20.
I am in an EVE/WE program where they only choose people who have done all prerequisites prior to being accepted. Only 20 slots.
