MANDATION- what has your facility tried?

just say no when called

check my job description that I signed...it says I can be mandated in extreme cases of disaster (war, war, war, etc)

if the person persists, hang up

at the facility i work for they can mandate you if u are already working and they need a shift covered. This happens routinely to stna's. we r very shot staffed.

forgive my ignorance, but 2 questions:

1: how can they do this? I have kids at home, and things to do. LATER!

2: why put up w/ this? The AZ SBON recently clarified that refusing mandation is NOT abandonment...

NO, THIS WAS NOT A SMALL TOWN HOSPITAL IT WAS A LTC FACILITY IN A SUBURBAN SETTING.

AS FAR AS HAVING THINGS TO DO ON YOUR DAY OFF OR AFTER WORK THEY DIDNT SEEM TO CARE-- THIS WAS A THREAT AND IF YOU COULD BE INTIMIDATED INTO COMING IN THAT WAS WHAT THEY WERE HOPING FOR. SOME PEOPLE -- MOSTLY CNA'S WENT FOR IT (THE INEXPERIENCED ONES).

THE DON HAS SINCE BEEN REPLACED R/T ISSUES WITH STAFF RETENTION.

I live in a small Ohio town, and work in a LTC facility. The DON and Administrator don't seem to care if people have a life outside the facility. If the stna"s refuse to stay they can be fired, and if a nurse leaves it is considered abandenment, can lose your job and be reported to the board. When i am forced to mandate staff I make every effort to cover the shift so it doesn't happen but seems to be happening daily. I think I'll do some reserch today about mandation.
