Managing Aggressive Behavior Course

I am considering a position and one of the requirements is to have had a Managing Aggressive Behavior Course. I did an on-line serch but could only find training for instructors - it appears most facilitites which require it provide it "in-house". Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for how to get into one of these courses? Thanks for your time and help.

In my experience (almost 25 years in psych), most facilities do provide a course in-house, and they choose what program they want you to have. I've had many positions where I was already certified in a few different courses from other employers but still had to complete the new employer's preferred course (so that everyone is "singing from the same page in the hymnbook" when it comes to dealing with difficult situations).

I would be inclined to contact the potential employer and ask if they have a specific course in mind, and where you might complete that particular course (or ask where other employees have taken courses that met their expectations). If they don't have any particular preference, you might contact any psych facilities in the area and ask when they are offering their course again, and if "outsiders" could possibly take part.

Best wishes!

Try The Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) I taught these classes for years and the course will meet the requirement from JCAHO.

I agree with this recommendation! That's what I had to take to work on my (inpatient psych) unit.

Thanks for the recommendation. I have looked at their web-site and will follow-up.

If you re-read the requirements, does it say you have to have taken the course already or that you will have to take it in the future, if you get the job. Where I've worked, it's an annual course everyone has to take (CPI) and it's provided at the facility.
