hi i am a brand new nurse starting in the er. i am a member of the ena, who offers malpractice insurance for around $ 100 a year. did you invest into this type of insurance, if yes which one do you have?
thanks so much,
my first day of work will be tomorrow.
I've always carried my own (NSO). I do things like stop at roadside accidents, be the first aider for my various Scout troops, etc. My hospital covers me at work, but what if they decide I did something contrary to policy?I look out for myself while I look out for others.
I carry a policy that guarantees me enough to provide my own shyster lawyer to protect me, but not enough to be a deep pocket.
But I also do not work outside of the hospital anymore and certainly not for free.
You choke at a restaurant, I will call 911 for you. You get in a car wreck, I will call 911 for you. You slip and fall, I will call 911 for you.
I carry absolutely no supplies at all for emergencied either on me or in my car. Only my golf clubs and no you can not make them into splints. Call 911.
Well, Tom, if you choke in front of me I will Heimlich you while someone else calls 911, on my phone if needed. If you are in a car crash I will call, then stabilize your neck, and wash the blood off afterwards. (Actually, my kids made me change into a different pair of jeans before I could get back in the car, we were on vacation and had a suitcase handy. I told her they weren't actually dripping but I had to change in the middle of the highway median anyway. )
Someday I will stand in front of my God, and answer for what I did with the gifts He gave me.
And I like working with my Scouts, both Boy and Girl Scout troops. :balloons:

I carry NSO and would NEVER count on the hospital to protect me.
