Hello Everyone,
I start Nursing school this fall and the school requires that the students obtain malpractice insurance and carry it through graduation. Is anyone else having to do this? If so, what is the cost? Do you pay it once or monthly? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Kimberly

I get mine through a program my university has. It's $15 for a year, but I assume that's a special rate. You might call the nursing office and see if they can give you any suggestions on who most of the students use or if there's one they prefer.
I think this is par for the course in nursing school because you're actually going to be practicing in a real hospital on real people. Not only does the hospital have to cover themselves in case (god forbid) something happens, but also the university has to cover themselves.

Our nursing student association did the details for us. It cost us $20 a year for the student version.

I find it odd that they require you to take this. i was covered by my school as a student (and currently still am) and was told that malpractice insurance for nurses is pointless, unless you're something other than an RN functioning in a independent role such as a CRNA.
