Ages of male nursing students?

Nursing Students Male Students

Published

Of the 23 other students comprising the group that I entered nursing school with, three of them are men. The class that is graduating at the end of next week I believe has 1 male student, and as far as I know the class immediately behind mine has 1 as well. This is about 60 students (some classes have had students drop), with 6 of them being males; that's only 1 in 10.

So we know that male nurses are few and far between, but how old are we?

The 1 student in the class graduating next week is 28.

The 1 student in the class that entered the semester after mine is at least 30 (a second career-er I believe).

Of the 4 in my class, 2 are about 45, 1 is 40, and then there is me...21.

How old are you guys? How old when you started school?

Just curious.

I'm in my first semester and 42 years old. Another male in my class is 42 also (we have the exact same day of birth). How's that for the older male nurse?????

I'm 28 years old. This is my second degree. There are several guys in my class that are in their 30's and 40's. One guy is in his 50's - he works now in hospital administration, and wants to get a BSN now!

Well, I'm 19 right now, but by the time I actually start with my classes, I'll probably be 20. I've ran into guys who range from their mid-20's to their early 40's...

Turning 29 next month. This will also be my second degree. There is also another male who is 29 and the rest of the males are in their early 20's.

I am 44 with 3 semesters to go. Typically I am not the oldest but "among" one of them. Age is not really a big deal to me anyhow.

I'll be 25 when I finally start. I feel like I'm losing time and want to get my career started and school done ASAP.

AcousticFoodie, trust me when I say you are not losing time at all, I been in nursing for over 35+ & I have seeing older students coming in for their clinical, the last one was 57yr. but like he said "I'm doing this for me" I just :yeah:him for his determination, I wish you the very best in all of your endeavors~

Hey thanks Romano! I know 25 is still young (although technically it is the year when our testosterone production reaches its peak I think)! I just wanna be a seasoned veteran by the time I'm in my mid 30s!

I'm 17 and I am entering my community colleges pre-nursing program, however I will be 18 for a few months then I'll be 19 when I enter nursing school. Hopefully if I do what I am supposed to I will graduate the spring before I turn 21.

Wow Pat! That's awesome that you're starting so young

i started 24 and i graduated with a BSN at 27 but i'm 28 now...since i went to the philippines, many students are in their teens and i was the oldest in the bunch but not in the entire nursing graduates. I know this guy who was 43 and still on his 3rd year.
