Of the 23 other students comprising the group that I entered nursing school with, three of them are men. The class that is graduating at the end of next week I believe has 1 male student, and as far as I know the class immediately behind mine has 1 as well. This is about 60 students (some classes have had students drop), with 6 of them being males; that's only 1 in 10.
So we know that male nurses are few and far between, but how old are we?
The 1 student in the class graduating next week is 28.
The 1 student in the class that entered the semester after mine is at least 30 (a second career-er I believe).
Of the 4 in my class, 2 are about 45, 1 is 40, and then there is me...21.
How old are you guys? How old when you started school?
Just curious.

Hello to all,
Last year at the age of 26 I decided to change the direction of my life and pursue nursing. I got accepting into a 2nd degree program in NYC, I start in Aug 2010. I am 27 and will be 28 when I graduate. I can't lie, Im a little nervous, but I am going to blog and do a video diary of my experience as a male nursing student. I will post a link and start a thread on this site, I hope you guys follow my journey... Good luck to everyone who is trying to get in, and congrats to those who are already in.
I just turned 41 and am in the process of completing my pre-req's along with the co-req's for the RN program. I will be applying for the Fall 2011 program. I am currently a project manager in a factory, yep, career changer here!!
I love seeing other guys like me posting here!
I'm 40 and finishing up my pre reqs for my nursing program (Fall 2011 start). I only have A&P 1/2 to complete and I can't wait to get them done and to start the program.
Nursing is also a second career for me, after 12 years as an attorney. Over a year ago, before starting school, I posted my "story" on this site and rec'd alot of positive feedback. It was great to receive such encouragement. I now return to the site often to read about others like us.
So to all you guys considering nursing, either as a young guy or older career changer like me, best of luck!
Wow, I am so glad to see some other men in a similar situtation here! I am 43 and was a self-employed housing contractor for 15yrs. With the collaspe of the housing market, I knew a change was in order. So here I find myself, taking my pre-req's for an ADN. I look foward to getting into my core studies, and am open for suggestions from all!
