Ages of male nursing students?

Nursing Students Male Students

Published

Of the 23 other students comprising the group that I entered nursing school with, three of them are men. The class that is graduating at the end of next week I believe has 1 male student, and as far as I know the class immediately behind mine has 1 as well. This is about 60 students (some classes have had students drop), with 6 of them being males; that's only 1 in 10.

So we know that male nurses are few and far between, but how old are we?

The 1 student in the class graduating next week is 28.

The 1 student in the class that entered the semester after mine is at least 30 (a second career-er I believe).

Of the 4 in my class, 2 are about 45, 1 is 40, and then there is me...21.

How old are you guys? How old when you started school?

Just curious.

I will turn 35 when I graduate (April 2011). I am now 34, in an accelerated BSN program. This will be my second career.

'The Few. The Proud. The Male Nurses.'

Im 33 and no longer a first year RN! When I changed careers, I really thought I would be alone as a male in this field... WRONG! My unit alone has 6 other RNs that are guys. If you are wondering if nursing is for you, dont subscribe to gender issues!

When I was younger, no men I knew were nurses. Now that I am 40 and am in my second year of nursing school, I am glad to here there are a lot of men in the profession. I think us guys fill a much needed void. This is the best decision I made my whole life..

I just graduated May 2010. I'm 23 and of 75 students, I was one of 13-15 guys. we either lost a few (failed) or gained a few male students from semesters ahead of us.

I would say the guy age range was mostly in the early-mid 20s with a few in their 30s

I am 34 starting the nurse program. My goal is to become a CNA first, so I can work in the ER while taking my nurse courses.

Hey man, me too! I was a successful real estate agent for about 5 years, then worked in the bank for about a year, then earned my BS in Healthcare Administration this year and now going earn my degree as an RN. Nursing runs deep in my family. My mother is a nurse, my grandmother is a nurse, my cousin is a nurse, and my wife just graduated nursing school in 2008, so now I guess it is my turn! So this will be a career change for me too! I am looking forward to becoming a nurse as well. Best of luck!!

Just and update guys, this is PatMac10 (now PatMac10,CNA). I just passed my NNAAP CNA exam yesterday and am now officially a CNA!!!!! I feel that I just took a big step toward becoming a RN. I just graduated from HS and plan on going into an ADN program and will hopefully recieve my letter for Fall 2011 this coming up spring. If all goes as planned I will enter nursing school while still be 18.

I hope the best for all of you guys.

I am 21 and would be completeting my BSN program this year. I think nursing is a proffesion which enables one to express our true nature..its goes beyond gender therefore i have no difficulties in bring up issues between a male n a female nurse...cheers!!

44, will graduate (if all goes as planned) at the age of 46, just a few months shy of 47. My health is good and I don't seem to be senile, besides, 50 is the new 30, right?
