hey guys im a pre nursing student here at asu 1 semester away from entering the professional program. i was just curious what the average salary or wage is for a male nurse today. i heard rumors that male nurses 2 years out of college in massachusetts can make close to 6 figures, just wondering if there was any truth to this..thanks for the help.

Whatever it is, I hope it is the same salary they pay female nurses!

Same as 'female' nurse salaries.
i hope it is the same also..but like most professions in any area males are generally payed more. i do not think it is right but it is a fact for the most part..and if it is the same as female nurses in that area...then what do they make?

Males make the same as females in similar jobs... that being said, more men work in the OR/ICU/ED which sometimes can involve more incentives. More men also tend to work in management, which also pays more. Check out Salary.com....
Six figures is a little generous... in NYC you can pull 85k without overtime...

I'm an SICU nurse 16 months out of nursing school. I make 21.30 per hour, same as the female nurses on my unit. Obviously I need to move to Massachusetts.

I'm not sure about MA, but where I work in NJ starting is around $31.00/hr days. I know in the Philly area the salary is a few $$ lower.

SALARY
This is for the Boston area. It seems to be between 60-70,000 for a base staff RN.
Where I am, in Florida, the base is 49-55,000...

GGGEEZ, look at the claws come out when this poor student makes a simple inquery regarding pay. I know, I know, he did it in the male nursing forum. But I dont think any implication of male vs. female pay was made, simply what could he expect. Sorry for the rant, but I coulnt resist seeing the ladies immediatley jump at the comment. c'mon ladies ya know we love ya!!

Yes, it was a simple inquiry. However, you might learn a lesson about cultural sensitivity from that inquiry. Not being PC, but if you specify "male nurse" salary, there's an implication that males routinely make more than females. While that tends to be true in corporate America for similar jobs, I think nursing is on more of an even keel in terms of compensation.
"Male" nurse. Yeesh, I'm going to be a nurse.

Males tend to work more OT also.
I noticed you're EMS, I was EMT-B for 8 years, then EMT-P for 6; just grad. RN -ADN in may 2007. The EMS greatly helped in class , esp. clinicals.Good Luck w/ school. By the way male or female? My guess --male.
