His name is Phillipe Nover from New York, he seems to be really good and a hard hitter. very technical fighter. looked really impressive in his win tonight. any one else see it?
The guy's name is Phillipe Nover. I'm an ER Rn and huge MMA fan myself. My sister dated a UFC Fighter briefly, and I used to go work out with him occassionally it's a hardcore workout. I don't see how he has the energy to train and be a nurse but it's all about mindset and wanting to do it. When I first started working in ER one of my co workers was a boxer as well as a nurse, plus he was married with 2 kids. I really never saw how that guy did it. I have enough trouble keeping up with working, going to grad school and having a pregnant girlfriend. I couldn't imagine throwing one more thing on there. I have much much respect for Nover and hope he wins.
Awesome....I'm rootin' for Nover to win too...gotta root 4 my fellow nurse. There's a Kenpo Karate studio down the street from my house...gonna check it out. I've heard they train using grappling techniques too. Going to the gym has lost its charm...I need something new to motivate me. Too many potlocks, donuts, and extra shifts catching up with me, and my gut.
btw Totally gonna watch Coutoure v. Lesnar match this Sat. ...Bet Coutoure submits Brock in the 1st round!!
Cool... A little MMA knowledge probably comes in handy when some pts or their family get a little out of hand. Imagine being a pt that gets a code grey called on them...then you see nurse Nover walk into your room..."What's the problem?..." I'd like to see the expression on that pt's face
I'm a MMA fighter. My record is 6-1-0 in the cage. I also train and compete in BJJ (Gracie Barra). My record on the mat is 8 wins by sub, 4 wins by points, and 2 loses by points. I'm thinking about starting nursing school. Can someone tell me a little about the job. Things like what kind of hours I could expect to work, $ per hour, and days per week.
Where do you fight and train out of? It all just depends on the field and where you work and other varibles. As far as pay goes, I started out in the ER working 7a to 7p three days a week making $23 an hour. Now I work 11p to 11a two nights a week and 11p to 7a two nights a week, and with my difs make an average of $33 a hour. Night shifts pay more but if you're gonna still fight and train nights may not be the best option for you. Depends on the person. Nursing school though is very demanding so be prepared.
I worked out with a small club in SLC for a summer. Never competed, just wanted to stay in shape. Great bunch of guys, two of them were EMTs. Kempo/MMA. Don't recall it being hard on the knees, most was hand strikes and grappling. Kicks were shin/knee strikes.
Hainvg said that, grappling can be hard on the knees, no question about it. You become a good friend of NSAIDS and ice, for sure.
Yea the UFC guy my sister dated and a grappler and a kicker, so I know from working out with him a few times that it can kill your knees. It was fun and I loved it but I could barely walk after the workouts so I know there's no way I could do that and then go work 3 back to back 12s ya know? Hell some of the subs I've watched tonight I know would leave my knee out of comission for days.

Oh I bet that was fun for you. But it could have been worse right? How hard is Kempo on the knees? Like I said I'd love to train to actually fight but my knee can't handle it. So I've been looking for something to help me keep in shape (I hate going to the gym) that can also kinda of kill some of the stress from working and going to school.
