I am a first semester male nursing student. I would like to advance on to the practitioner program, however, as I understand it, they are going to make that a doctorate program. Not sure that my information is correct, but it makes me think that maybe the physician assistant route might be better. Not to sound sexist, but it sounds better anyway. Do you have any info or thoughts on the whole deal?
I'll finish a BSN (second degree for me), and I would like to enter an FNP program after school. However, by the time I finish this new program (May 2012) we'll be precariously close to the imposed date of 2015 that we hear of for bumping NPs up to a doctoral level. I don't want a doctorate in nursing theory.
Between FNP or PA I think I'd rather be a PA. Frankly, I think I'd rather be an administrator. That said, who knows what'll be in store for me tomorrow. I've found in life that I can't plan anything related to education or occupation.
Your state Nurse Practice Act will dictate what the future holds for NPs in your state. Most state will most likely have a grandfather clause. The DNP will most likely address the minimum educational requirement for new NP after 2015. I will be doing with my MSN/FNP before 2015, but I'm going for my DNP.

Just wondering if there are any male NPs out there?
