Should a male nurse wearing a scrub top and has chest hair be required to wear a T shirt underneath in order to cover up the chest hair?

male nurse here, hairy chest with gold chain, i don't wear a t-shirt. i have tried the t-shirt in the past but i just end up sweating too much...

doesn't the hair get caught in the chain (or vice versa)?? :chuckle

Glad we can still have fun even if the things and people that we work with aren't the best all the time. I have been a nurse for 30 years and I like it both ways. Some fabric irritates my skin and then I wear a T shirt, I also get warm and tend to sweat so deoderant and no T shirt under a loose cotton scrub are great sometimes.

This thread has been fun. Thanks people, hope you all have a great day.

you know, nobody brought up the 'barber' looking shirts as an alternative. the guys had to wear these in nursing school (with the collar and the zipper down the middle). i know a male nurse that wears those (he's older, and it seems to suit him- maybe it's for this reason :chuckle ).

how did they know it was the staff's hair or that it was indeed pubic. i have seen a few chest hairs that resemble those of the pubic variety.... can you see a doc *****ing "i just got a run... got any nail polish so i can stop it before i start the surgery?" and some with those big gorilla hands... yeah that'll be the day!

I don't wear t-shirts because I don't like the way they hang down below my sleeves.

I also have a hairy chest and wear my scrubs without a t-shirt. I morificecape and trim the hairs because I don't like the hair hanging out the v-neck, bt it's very clear I have hair on my chest.

I don't think it should be mandated one way or another just because a guy has a hairy chest.

what about those tank tops -- are they called wife beaters?

I voted that a man should not be required to wear a t-shirt. A man should be able to evaluate each situation and act accordingly.....some work environments are very warm and a t-shirt would make a guy very uncomfortable....some cities are very hot (even with air-conditioning).

I am a married female and I can only say that after many years of marriage have learned that men and women have totally different thermostats!! My guy lays nearly buck naked in bed at night when I am under a quilt, so I have empathy for the guys.....then, they have the option to groom at the neck line. It is all negotiable as far as I can see.

Thanks for a fun thread!!!:chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

and as long as the man is NOT wearing a gold medallion...we used to have a Dr. that did that and he also insisted that all the nurses call him "Nick" (his first name) and he used to call me "angel" (ewww...full body shiver). I guess when I think of male chest hair and scrub tops I think of that icky Dr. We used to call him "Dr. Feelgood" (behind his back of course)...he totally reminded me of a character out of a cheesy 70's adult movie. Ewwww.....So chest hair is not to bad....but please not in combo with thick gold chains with medalions and/or fanny packs (unless you work in a place fanny packs are convenient) This Dr. really didn't need one. (And no he wasn't a diabetic or had any life threating allergy that warrented a fanny pack)

Jenny,

Despite that guy's sleazy behaviour science has proven that gold chains around the necks of hairy men are of the utmost importance........................it's lets them know where to stop shaving! :rotfl: :rotfl:

heres a little story for you. a resident older gentelman not with the greatest eyesight, jokester if you will, nice guy, sitting up in his bed the other day and we were talking, and he spots my tattoo, that unfortunately (back in the pre-nursing era)i got right in the middle of my chest , because the top of it peaks out from the "V" of my scrubs, he says " oh thats a heart, and jokenly i replied , john how many times have you seen me, what did you think it was? his responce, ( laughing histericly, " i thought it was chest hair" i said ohh thanks and laughed the rest of the day and then again today,

now i ask, is it about apearances or about people?

guess you know how i voted:-).

I voted not to wear T-shirts.It depends on the weather. In the tropical country where I work,it will be uncomfortable for the nurse to be wearing as such..

Let it show!!! It's just the back and neck hair that is a turn off

Never asked for scrubs to be my "uniform" they look tacky because they where made to not look like anything, just to wear in surgery. I don't see any more reason for me to wear a t-shirt as a woman should. As noted previously, cleavage is more of a distraction. And no I am not complaining.
