Malcolm X College Nursing 2018

Published

Have you applied? Have you heard anything? Do you have some helpful information to share?

I've already uploaded a few documents, my insurance and BLS. My doc just completed my health forms, so I just have to go pick it up. I will probably be uploading it by this weekend.

Anyone else complete the blood titer lab? I learned that I'm not immune to hep B, so I had to do an antigen test proving I didn't contract it and get a booster. I also will be doing the antibody lab in 4-6 weeks, I'm hoping the nursing program won't mind the wait...ahhh. I also don't like that they want my immunization records AND the labs, just argh...I get why as I'm literally the living example!

Also orientation is ALL DAY (bring your own lunch) for two days, what the hell will we be doing these two days?! I'm kind of bummed that one of these days is my daughter's birthday. :(

We're supposed to wear our scrubs for those days right?

Oh good, thanks for that! I posted the same question the same time as your response! Lol

Also who are you emailing? I emailed a few times with other questions, no response.

Sylvia Arnold, she's the one who sent the orientation email.

So weird, I had the Hep B vaccines as a kid and also had no antibodies, either! My doctor started me on the (6 month) vaccine cycle again.

6 months? Mine just said one booster and a follow-up antibody lab to see if I'm finally immune, if not, then a second booster. Hopefully one booster was enough. She said typically we're not required to get the vaccine, but recommended it as I'll be working in a clinical setting. I'm like...that's ridiculous, gimme the vaccine!

I had hep B vaccines as a kid too, but it looks like I never completed the series (2 out of 4)...THANKS DAD! I recall being banned from school because I wasn't up to date on my hep B vaccine as a kid (and I eventually got one). My dad was dumb, he turned into an anti-vaxxer around that time, fortunately I already got everything else.

Oh no haha...

I think it's 6 months because he's giving me a Hep A/B combo vaccine? I was negative for the antigen, though.

We have to upload our vaccinations records from when we were babies???

I thought the titers would be sufficient. Since that's all they asked for ughh I lost my vaccinations book.

All we have to provide is proof of positive titers. You only have to show proof of a vaccine if you have negative titer results.

Also, you should be able to get your vaccine records from a high school or university if you don't have them. I got mine from the school where I got my BA.

Does any one know if we can email the 2 people in the paperwork we got as well the forms or do we have to take the original to them in person?

We are already uploading the documents so I don't see why we have to give the 2 people from Malcolm documents too?

Is anyone else nervous about not being able to register until orientation!?

I doubt there will be a lot of evening classes offered.

still waiting for my academic program to change to Nursing are other people waiting too?

I'm not sure...

My program already changed to nursing. My academic counselor is still the same, but I never see her, I just stick to my original one and he was cool with it. Lol

Are we supposed to have a "nursing advisor"? Not sure.
