Hey guys! My name’s Aminah and I’m gearing up to apply to Malcolm X’s Fall 2021 nursing program (woo-hoo!). Previous Malcolm X forums have been super helpful with giving me an idea of the program/ preparing me to apply so I wanted to start one for Fall 2021!
I believe the application cycle begins January 4th. Would love to get in contact with other applicants! Have you taken the TEAS already? Do you still have a prereq to complete? Let’s chat ?.
Nitya, I took my CNA course at ICI (https://www.ici-training.com/) and I highly recommend the accelerated course. I was able to knock it out in one month during Winter break. Is it very self-paced though, so you have to be disciplined. Lmk if you end up going there and we can chat more ?
Aminah, I got a 73.3% overall. Reading 87%, Math 90%, Science 53%, and English 62%. Personally, the English score really hurt LOL. I normally do very well in that area, and I actually felt really confident in my answers so IDK where I went wrong. I knew I would bomb the science, so I was heavily relying on the other areas. I have never taken BIO and CHEM so anything I got right I learned through the ATI test prep book.... I'll take a 53% on science because I know that's the best I can do right now.
I can re-take in 30 days so I likely will. Since classes started this week, I will have some BIO and CHEM under my belt, and I can try to see WOW! happened in the English. My goal is to get to 80% or higher. I have a 4.0 GPA so I'm wondering how much that helps as well.... But, I also read that now it's maybe a lottery system?? ?
Juju, I bought the ATI test prep book with 2 online quizzes (~$90). HIGHLY recommend doing ATI test quizzes to get into the testing mentality. There are so many Qs I got wrong the first time around from not reading clearly and small mistakes. I studied for a little over 2 weeks. Mostly refreshing on Math and learning as much of the Science as possible.
I read MX takes foreverrrr to check off requirements. I am hoping that since I applied early that counts for something, but who knows!
Nitya, I believe you can take A&P ahead of time. I am taking one of those over the Summer to hopefully lighten up my load once fall comes. The fundamentals of nursing is Malcolm X's CNA course. I don't think they offer any nursing courses over the Summer, but there might be a Spring course starting soon you can apply to!
Ahhh literally crying tears of joy! LOL just took the TEAS and got my results: 89.3% overall/ 87% Reading, 94% Math, 87% Science, and 92% English & Language Use!
The science was a lot harder than I expected and I honestly didn’t think I did that well so I’m shook! Literally get the Mometrix guide and go through it entirely, that was my main resource. But also get the Kaplan guide to supplement the science section! My biggest advice is to not underestimate the English & Language Use section. At first I only did a brief review in Mometrix and was averaging 75% on the practice tests. But after trying to really understand the guide in depth and using videos for things I forgot about, I started scoring above 90%. Taking it online wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be but using the online calculator during the math section kind of slowed me down. I suggest using an online calculator during practice tests to get used to it. ?
Amina- Wow! Great score- congrats! I think I will look into that Mometrix book, LOL.
I already feel like I've learned so much in just 2-ish weeks of Bio + Chem. I feel pretty confident I will do better when I can re-take. Right now I have to focus on the now, and for me, that is my CNA test next Thursday. Once that passes I can move back to the TEAS test. I have so much going on that I have to compartmentalize my life ?.
Online learning has been great overall, but my BIO professor seems so lazy. We are basically teaching ourselves with no sessions. I'm a bit upset that I chose her. How is online learning going with everyone else?
I always forget to respond on here LOL but Lise Lu, thank you girl!! And yes, definitely get a copy.
Good luck on your CNA test! And sorry to hear you don’t really care for your professor ??♀️. I had Jessica Long last semester and she was a great instructor. I’m currently taking math 118 and it’s boring me to tears LOL; wish I could’ve tested out. Also it’s great that you’re grasping the concepts in bio/chem cause that’ll really help out on the TEAS!
The CNA state exam wasn't bad. I feel confident that I passed but won't know until Monday??.
After Monday, I will have all requirements done!
Does anyone know the steps from here? Is it all a waiting game until after the 4/17 deadline, or do they begin offering seats to those who have everything done?
Hoping for the latter, but I don't think anyone knows for certain!
Woo hoo I know you’re relieved! I’ll be in the same boat once I complete my background check and upload my medical documents (which they keep sending reminders about LOL but that’s a good thing!) Judging from previous threads, it seems like they wait till after the deadline to send out acceptance letters but I wish it was sooner too!

JuJu_Gee,
Oh wow ??♀️, yea I’ve read in other forums that they’re not the best with paperwork. I sent my high school transcript in last May and when I called last month to make sure it was on file, two different people told me it wasn’t. Later on, a third person confirmed that it was smh. That’s why I’ve been trying to do everything way ahead of time.
Hey Nitya! Yea like Lise Lu said, you have to have your CNA certification by the deadline (April 17th). Do you think you can find a program to get it done in time? I know mine was like 4 weeks shorter than usual because of the pandemic (waived clinical hours); wondering if they’re still doing that.
Lise Lu: Yay you’re above the cutoff! I read that it was stated in an info session that the TEAS accounts for 60% of necessary points for admission. I take mine next Friday, kind of nervous, kind of just over it LOL. Really just wanna take it once. Do you mind sharing your score and/ or your experience?
