Hey guys! My name’s Aminah and I’m gearing up to apply to Malcolm X’s Fall 2021 nursing program (woo-hoo!). Previous Malcolm X forums have been super helpful with giving me an idea of the program/ preparing me to apply so I wanted to start one for Fall 2021! I believe the application cycle begins January 4th. Would love to get in contact with other applicants! Have you taken the TEAS already? Do you still have a prereq to complete? Let’s chat ?.

Hey! I'm glad you started this.
Yes the application starts on January 4th. I have not taken the TEAS yet. I have finished the prereqs. Currently enrolled in A&P1 this Spring. Not sure if I should wait until that class is over with to take the TEAS or just try without finishing AP1.
How about you? Have you taken A&P yet?
Hey! Sorry for the late response; the year has started out a bit crazy for me LOL.
But okay it seems like you only have the TEAS left to worry about. I was planning to be in the same position but recently found out they don’t accept any math course above math 125 and the math course I took for my BA (college algebra) transferred to math 140 ?. Thank God I went to the info session last month to learn that LOL so now I have to take math 118 Spring semester; super thankful I can still apply for fall semester.
That’s the last prereq I have. I’m going to wait till I get in the program to take the coreqs so I’ve been studying A&P on my own for the TEAS ?. If I remember correctly, I believe we have to take the TEAS during the application window, so by April. You may not be able to take it after your class if it doesn’t end til May but I’d double check with the coordinator.
How do you feel about the TEAS overall? I’m kinda nervous about taking it remotely; worried about technical issues. I’ve been using the mometrix ATI TEAS secrets book to study and I feel like it’s been helpful.
No worries! Hope the year gets better for you!
I have not taking the info session because they we full. But I didn't know that about math. I myself have a BS. I'm going to have to double check which math I have taken in the past. That sucks that you have to take a math class.
Yes I know we have to do it during the window. I meant like wait to see how the class is and see if I can handle studying it myself. A lot of people recommend taking those science classes before the TEAS. But it doesn't seem like CCC needs a certain requirement for the science section on the TEAS. I'm glad to know someone else is self studying the science section tho. Makes me feel a bit more relaxed.
Honestly I haven't studied yet. I had a lot going on last semester that I completely forgot when the application opened. But I have the mometrix ATI TEAS secrets book. And have read the ATI practice test and a view Youtube videos are helpful.
When do you plan on taking the TEAS.
Thank you; I hope this year’s good to you too!
Yea those info sessions filled up quickly! Im waiting for them to list more; I def want to attend at least one more to make sure I have everything together.
And yea I feel like since they’re allowing A&P to be a coreq, they understand quite a few ppl won’t be taking it before the TEAS. Otherwise, I feel like they’d require a minimum score. I’ve finished the science section in the mometrix book but I have yet to attempt one of the science practice tests. Think I’ll try one this week to see where I’m at. But yea the book has been cool so far; testing well in math and reading but I keep averaging 75% in English and language use ??♀️. That section’s a lot harder than I anticipated. Have you been watching a specific Youtube channel for help?
I’m trying to take the TEAS by the end of the month.

Hey guys! I applied today for the Fall 2021 Nursing program. I'm so glad you started this thread!
So far I have most things done. I need to take my CNA certification exam in Feb., and the TEAS test. I'm in my last semester of prereqs. My advisor also suggested I waited to take the test, but I didn't want to wait because I feel like there have already been some setbacks. I was supposed to be in the BNA/CNA program this fall but it got canceled. I ended up going through an outside private school to stay on track.
I'm glad I didn't wait. I ordered the ATI test prep book and it's been super helpful. After a couple of weeks of studying, I feel pretty confident. I will probably take it as soon as possible. As soon as my tests are out of the way, I should be good to go.
Where did you guys get the physical and background forms from? I have a castlebranch account already from when I started BNA, so I don't think I have to re-do the background check. The only physical form I have is from BNA. I emailed someone today so hopefully, I'll hear back soon.
Also, I guess we will be taking the TEAS remotely??
Same here. After you mentioned you have to take certain math classes I def need to attend an info session.
I have read that the science section in the mometrix book doesn't go into too much details on things. Are you using any other resource for practice test or just the mometrix book?
Youtube for science Susanna Heinze is a popular one. You should check her out. Crash course as well can be helpful.
Hey Lise Lu! I just applied too; I would’ve applied yesterday but I thought we had to wait til we had everything done LOL. I’m kind of confused because they haven’t sent me any info on how to complete the background check/ medical forms. I think we submit our medical documents on castlebranch too though. Going to try to make an account on there later.
Yea I’ve had some setbacks too with the prereqs so I feel your pain! Hopefully you saved some money with the other CNA program; mine was cheaper than Malcolm X’s. I took my CNA exam in October; it had a ton of questions on bedpans for some reason so be sure to study that ?. I also want to take the TEAS as soon as possible. I registered yesterday and will be taking it on the 29th.
Juju_Gee,
Yea the mometrix book is pretty much just a review of everything. I’ve been using some other resources like bio4kids and the Kaplan ATI TEAS book to supplement. Hoping I’m getting a decent gist of everything ?.
I’m a big visual learner so videos have been a godsend. I love crash course, though I find some of the videos a bit dense at times. I need to check out Susanna’s channel. Thank you!
Did you find out what your previous math class transferred to?

I'm currently taking the 4 prerequisites during the Spring and was planning on applying to the Fall 2021 cohort, as well! I still need to take the TEAS and get a CNA certification as well which I was planning to finish early in the Summer. This is my first time applying to college and I'm not sure what the deadline is, exactly. Would it be doable this way, taking 4 prerequisites till May and the TEAS+CNA in the Summer?
Hi Nitya!
I believe the deadline is around 4/17/21. That is the date all requirements must be met; including TEAS and CNA certification. You might want to try completing your CNA as soon as possible. I finished mine on Winter break in preparation for my application. You are allowed to apply to the program while you are in your last semester of your pre-reqs, so I think you are fine there. I'm taking BIO and CHEM + an elective this Spring.
Did anyone take their TEAS yet? I took mine on Wednesday. I passed but I wasn't really pleased with my score. It's well above the cut-off, but I'm worried that test scores play a significant role in the application process. I will likely re-take it again in 30 days, LOL.
Hey Future_RN_25,
No, I'm still waiting for the school to receive one of my transcript. Even tho I sent it over a month ago. I can't even apply to the program because my math and English are on that transcript. So I might have to call and see what is going on.
Hey Lise Lu,
What did you use to study for the TEAS and how long? I am planning to take them eventually LOL
