Hey everyone, just starting a topic for people to discuss City Colleges of Chicago Nursing application process for fall 2023. I've had all my documents marked as complete for weeks now, status on my application just updated to "viable candidate". Anyone else hear anything? They haven't had very many info sessions this semester. Anyone know why?

What prereqs did you struggle with? I take great notes and maybe I could help you out if you are going to retake any of them.
Thanks. My GPA dropped back in 2017 when I last went to Malcolm X to take nursing prereqs. That was actually the last semester I was there before got really sick and took a long leave of absence. Had to get surgeries and heal, and this Spring semester that just passed was the first semester coming back to retake prereqs that I received a D in in 2017. I actually did really good this semester but I'm not sure if it was enough to bring my GPA up. I still haven't seen grades post. I think they don't post until Monday.

I have one college I went to outside of CCC which was Robert Morris college downtown. The only class that was allowed to transfer to ccc was my English class. Because after I graduated high school and first went to college I majored in pre law. But after u had my child in 2010 that's when I decided to change to nursing and started off doing CNA and then went to CCC a few years after that to start nursing pre reqs.

Also I just completed biology and chemistry this past Spring semester. I'm taking Microbiology this Summer. And plan on retaking A&P in the fall since I didn't get accepted.

Unfortunately, they count your GPA from your coursework outside of CCC, even the classes that won't transfer. I was in your shoes when I started this journey two years ago, here is what I did. I took all the pre-requisite and co-requisite courses for the ADN program and all the pre-requisite courses for a BSN (CHEM201, CHEM212, MATH125, PSYCH201, PSYCH224 plus Anthropology and a fine arts class). I took 8 hours fall of '21, 8 hours Spring of '22, 11 hours last Summer, 19 hours last fall, and 18 hours this Spring. I got all As and raised my GPA from 1.7 in another school to 3.0 overall. It sucked, I had no social life, and all I did was study and work. But I have an amazing partner who supported me and I really, really want to be a nurse. You can do it, but you have to want it enough to go through hell to get it.

Thanks so much for the advice. Looks like that's the same thing I will be doing the next few semesters, since I would have to retake all my science classes anyway due to expiring soon. Then I'll probably be able to go right into RN like you said. I really want to be a nurse as well so I will work hard to do what I need to do.

Go out there and get it, I believe in you! Take advantage of the support that the college has, whether it be free therapy or nutrition, or academic support. Surround yourself with a community that believes in you and don't let anything stand in your way. You can do this. You WILL be an amazing nurse.

Thank you so much. This really inspired me. Good luck to each and every one of y'all and I hope you do really well in the program. Actually I know you will.
@GreyHairedRNStudent you are such a supportive and sweet person and will make an amazing nurse one day! Everyone in this thread will! I hope I get an acceptance soon but if not, best of luck to you all in the program! ?

Thank you ? I wouldn't sweat too hard that you haven't gotten the acceptance yet. Looking at the enrollment for 101, only 15 people have signed up out of a possible 90. I wonder if they gave priority to people who applied in the past but didn't get in. I had originally applied for Spring but didn't get all my documents done in time.
Ohhh that's good to know! I have more hope now. This is my first time applying. Fingers crossed.
