Dear all malaysian nurses:

I hope somebody who is from malaysian and went to US to work can help to deal with my quiries here as I am in Dilemma whether to go to Us to work. I am a state register nurse in Malaysia. I plan to take N-clex exam to fly to US to work and get some experience over there. Of course, at the same time I hope I can save money and come back to malaysia after few years. however, I heard from my fellow friends that I can't save money if I work in US as the expenses there are high. I a bit worried here....please some body help me....

So hows it going now?

There is no way to just fly to the US to get some experience. You require a visa that will permit you to work, and the US has been under a retrogression since October, 2006.

You cannot even start the immigration process thru an employer until the NCLEX exam is taken and passed. And you cannot apply directly for that exam, you need to gain permission from a BON.

Suggest that you read the Primer at the top of this forum to get specifics as to what is required to work in the US.

After passing the NCLEX exam, you will need to find an employer to sponsor you before you come to work in the U.S. The laws here are very strict and it will save you the headache. If you are able to get a job as a RN, your salary will be able to cover your expenses and allow you to save as well. RN are considerably well paid and if you work overtime, you will get paid much more.

Actually, we do not have sponsorship here for nurses, only petitioning for the green card. And with the retrogression in place, a nurse is looking at years before having a chance at a green card. Especially if they have not started the immigration process as of yet.

I am too unworldly and inexperienced to understand all this~~~ my best wishes to pywon8~~~

At the top of this forum is a thead called the Primer, it contains all information that is needed to understand about being able to work in the US. We also have threads here about the retrogression that is in place at this time.

Very easy to get the information that you need on this forum. Enjoy the reading.

Dear gentlemans and ladies,

I am a Malaysian with USA greencard.

Due to the long waiting list of nursing program in USA, I decide to complete my 3 years of Diploma in Nursing at Mahsa College , Malaysia. After that I would like to go back to California to sit for the NCLEX.

However I know that the Board Of Registered Nursing has a very strict rule for those applicants who graduated from school outside the USA, for applicant who is 1st graduate from his/her school of nursing to apply for CA licensure will be required for more clarification.

So, is there any possibility for me to know in advance if Mahsa College is meeting the Board's requirement before I will be told to re-take some classes when I apply for NCLEx ?

Thank you for your help

Until you apply to the BRN there is no real way to know whether your transcripts will be accepted or not.

Are you a new grad RN or do you have several years experience? If you're a new grad RN with zero experience as a nurse, your chances of getting a job are pretty slim as the new grad RN's here can't find a job. If you have several years experience then your chances are a bit better but no guarantee. Contact the CA BRN and find out what the requirements must be met to be granted permission to sit for the NCLEX. Good Luck
