I'm currently taking pre-req's at NCC and I am strugging with A&P I. I heard that nursing classes will be even tougher. What makes nursing classes the most challenging? Am I more likely to struggle in nursing classes if I am struggling in A&P?

Its a LOT of info to learn in a small amount of time. I personally wouldnt say that its hard, I guess because my professors are diverse and make it interesting. I also look for my own ways to find studying or whatever else interesting. I also dont mind asking questions so that I understand what Im doing--which takes the stress out of situations. But thats my opinion.

As a general rule, yes . Although they are different in their delivery, they are similar in their difficulty. With both types of classes, you need to know, memorize AND understand what you are reading and hearing. Nursing builds on A&P. If you do not know your A&P, it makes nursing harder, when you get to the heavy duty med/surg content.
Do you study with anyone? Do you make flash cards? I have heard there are coloring books for A&P that are helpful.
I'm going to start studying with someone & do the flashcards. I did much better on my second test. Thanks for all the advice! I feel alittle better now :)
i came back to add a few things but nurse educate hit one on the head. if you have a weak a&p class: nursing classes will be much more difficult to get through. if you took a professor that taught enough a&p for you to just "pass", nursing school is going to be double work. you've wasted a whole semester or year to get that a or b.
also, some people are used to having fun and hanging out and find it extremely hard to just stop once they begin nursing school, especially because you can still play around while taking pre- and co-reqs. for some people, ive found that a lack of a social life, not the coursework is why they find nursing school to be rough.

AP1 is a TOUGH course. I found it to be the toughest, especially when it came to memorizing the names of all the bones. Add to the fact that I had the worse professor at NCC. When the semester was over we only had 8 students left in the class out of a class of 25. Some people dropped the first day after his lecture. I hope you don't have this professor.
My second professor was great & it made it easier for me to grasp AP 2. Just keep studying & go online if possible maybe you can do some practice tests on a website to make it more intresting. Because you need to have a grasp of the anatomy portion to get thru med-surg.
Although I struggled thru AP I am doing really well in myy nursing courses thus far...
Prob because I find my nursing courses to be more intresting then the AP courses.
It does get better. Hang in there.
Thanks for the encouragement, wsmith. I feel so much better. I've been trying to aim for an A or B in A&P 1, but I fear I may get a C, which I know won't look too good to Molloy or Adelphi. I'm also taking Micro at the same time and working. I'm taking A & P II in the summer. I hope I get used to all the memorizing by then and do even better . . .
Honestly you do not want a C in AP 1. A C + is transferrable for Molooy & Adelphi but they won't take a C. Aim at the very least for a C + with AP 1 then you will have to get an A or B in AP 2. ALso aim for an A or B in micro as well.
With AP espeacially At NCC it really depends on the prof you have again, some profs are great & their exams are fair others will make your life miserable. I ended up with a C plus in AP 1 & a B plus in AP 2 as well as with chem. That's what saved me & now I'm in nursing school.

That is so truuuuue what you said. I was trying to get into LIU, Molloy,or Aldephi however I recieve a C- in Statistics, I took 8 classes my last semester and it was overwhelming. I did get into a diffent Nursing program. But always aim high, that is why I use the website, www.ratemyprofessor.com
That website save me that I didn't take the wrong professor for A&P 1,2 and Micro. Now I'm in Nursing school also. Because some professors get a kick out of they know you have to go through them to get into a nursing program and they can make life miserable at the time.

Yep I used that website also, I looked up my old professor, his rating was a 2 -- He was the only class I got a C in, going forward I check out the professors and I will know if its ME or if its them. If its ME, I try harder and it pays off. If its THEM i drop that class in the quickness lol
I use that website also!
I like that web site as well. However, NCC doesn't post the names of professors teaching courses until long after the classes have closed.
I wish I used it this semester. I have one nasty lady who enjoys screaming her demands to us. She teaches through intimidation, basically. I'm doing decent in her class (although I think i'd do wayyy better if I had someone else).
Just wondering, how do you manage to get in the class with the professor you want? Like I wrote above, NCC hardly posts the names of professors with their courses (that's why I got stuck with that awful prof.!)
