Please, WI nurses, can you verify information I heard while in vacation in Milwaukee this week, that nurses in Madison are making up to 10K more/year than nurses in Milwaukee? What about the Appleton area (i/e Theda Clark)? We are looking around WI now, and have heard the Fox Valley is awesome, but I wonder if the nursing salaries are low compared to Madison and Milwaukee. I need at least a Level II Trauma facility. Thanks for an informed reply!

I can't speak to either Madison or Milwaukee, but I work in Marshfield and we have a Level 1 trauma center here. The area is great and the pay isn't anything to sneeze at. Don't knock us here in the center of the state until you've looked at us.

I'm sure it's nice up there too. We enjoyed our vacation to WI so much, and even made it to Sheboygan for the 'Brat Fest'. :biere: We realize after visiting Appleton that although I should be able to find a job anyhwere it is most likely my husband will find work in his line in a metro area like Madison. We're going to start his job search in the state soon, though, and see what turns up. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hmmm. Doesn't that seem low?
That rate is for brand spankin new RNs, it just goes up from there.

The hourly rates in Wi will vary dependeing on whether or not the nurses are unionized and the proximity of nursing schools. I have worked at 2 different hospitals in Madison and currently work south of Madison at a community hospital that is paying almost 8.00/hr more for the weekend program. The fox valley is a great area as is Madison( a big college town). Lots of sports, restaurants, shopping and low crime rate. The central and western parts of the state also have a lot to offer especially if you like winter sports,a lot of lakes and an easy drive to the Mississippi and Mall of America.Milwaukee also has some great hospitals and everything that goes with a larger city, but the crime rate is definitely higher.
Good luck with your decision.
