Hello,
I'm new to this site and I plan on applying for Macomb's nursing program Feb, 2017!
I would love to hear from anyone else applying. I'm very nervous and excited.
Long story short, I was told the wrong things about my classes I planed to transfer. My GPA is now shot. I'm really mad because I would have taken the class I needed last semester. My GPA is now a 3.5034 and I have a HESI score of 92. I'm not confident that I will be accepted now. After reading the posts about ranking I decided to ask about it. I spoke with my advisor today about this formula of GPA x25 then adding your HESI score and dividing by 2. He told me that they don't calculate so simply. He also told me they rank you based on how many of your pre reqs (other than the 4 they calculate your gpa with) you have completed as well. I hope he is giving me correct information this time! Anybody else speak with an advisor about ranking?
Did anyone hear about the college changing the acceptance dates? Before, they would order each student by their rank (they no longer give out your rank BTW). Higher scores would be put into the August class, lower scores into the next classes (October, December, February). I heard that they now do random start dates, so even if you scored the highest out of all the students, you could be put into the last class starting in February. I also know we won't find out our start date until July. I really hope this isn't true.
Hello mittycd1! When I spoke with my advisor he said start dates are rank( 50 gpa/50 hesi) and the amount of other pre reqs and required classes you have finished before the program starts. My advisor said if you have intro to ethics or comparative religions already completed, your start day may be sooner. Not sure how true this is. I haven't heard anything about random start dates. That doesn't seem right to me.
Anatomy is hard, but the professor can make all the difference. Hopefully you have a great professor. The best thing to do is go over the material as much as possible. For the lab memorization, do wackabone and pokeamuscle. These are 2 games online that help you memorize. Also, go to purposegames.com and search Gennero. You will find that this professor has taken pictures of all the models and you can test yourself on them. Try quizlet and search anatomy and physiology. There are hundreds of exams you can practice. Go to the study sessions before the exams too (center campus learning center) You will be able to see the posters and models you will be quizzed on. YouTube has many videos to help. (search "anatomygmc" and crash course) Hopefully you can use these study tools to better your understanding. If you get stuck on something, feel free to contact me and I may be able to explain it better.

I am so nervous. I tried super hard to ensure I get into the program but made a bad decision to take pathological microbiology during a summer course and I was super difficult to balance school and my family and got a B-, so it messed up gpa so I applied with a 3.52. Then I took the hesi and decided to do my comprehension last and boy was that a bad idea because time flew and I was running out of time. I finished but just in time and having to fly through it. So I ended up getting a 83. When talking to the counselor I pretty much got the idea that I am thresh hold for getting in. I really don't want to wait a year.

Hopefully.... I guess mine is an 89. So 3.92 GPA, 80% on hesi. 3.92*25 then add 80, and divide by two correct?
