Macomb Community College Nursing 2014

Published

Let's share our experiences !!! I just wanted to start a page for those who are getting ready for Macomb Nursing program 2014.

I actually applied this year(2013) for the first time. Unfortunately I was't accepted, but I am hoping to be accepted next year! I want to share my experiences, and meet people who are also applying.

I have completed all the prerequisites, and I plan to retake the Hesi test sometime this year.

Welcome!

:)

I figured that the A&P would be more in depth then the book....yesh

As for the other sections, I think the review book would suffice. I don't know if you will have the same exam, but definitely know the math conversions from the Intro class. There was a conversion on the exam that wasn't mentioned in the review book so I got it wrong because I couldn't pull my brain for it, lol.

Another thing I would recommend is start with a section that you're most confident/comfortable with. It'll definitely ease you into the exam. Math was my most confident section so I started there first and ended at A&P.

This was the order I took my exam in and how I scored:

Math 94

Reading Comprehension 88

Vocabulary 96

Grammar 90

Anatomy&Physiology 88

I took the HESI today and got a 93.2, It took me just under 3 hours and I felt like I was taking forever and going to be the last one but I was surprised how many people were still taking the test when I finished because I'm literally almost ALWAYS the last one for every test I take lol

I studied from the 'HESI Admission Assessment exam review book edition 3' which everyone seemed to have with them today too.. but to be honest, almost all of my studying I did online, youtube, etc for all 5 of the sections and really just made up my own notes and study guides from everything I found online and from previous class notes. I feel that was a lot more beneficial vs. just studying the book. I was so jealous when Tuesday's exam got rescheduled because last night I was in a panic like omg I need more time but now that it's over with I am SO happy :)

Nice job @streetcollette! I am also happy to be done with it! lol. I had a hectic morning because I couldn't find my confirmation letter and I was running behind more than I was hoping.

Now we play the waiting game x) I'm applying with a 3.47 GPA and a 91.2 HESI.

Hey everyone I took the HESI also today too and I am freaking out. the a and p I was very lost. half the questions were not covered in the book nor in the notes I took from my class so I got a 74 for that part. my overall score was 84.8 and my gpa is 3.88. how do you guys think I will rank or if I even have a chance?

THey called to reschedule mine. Im taking it the 21st, which now seems so far away. I did feel ready and wish they just didn't cancel it. I would have braved the cold.

@ashwei I for sure think you have a really good chance.

@streecollette good job, i heard through the grape vine that you specifically take a long time with all your tests. :cheeky:

Good job everyone! You all did so well!

I did okay, got 84.4 (I did horrible in the ap portion :/)

Now I have 4.0 +84.4!

Hopefully we all going to be accepted !!

a.carolina were you in room a 123 in the pink sweater? lol I sound like a creep!! I am so nervous I thought I was so ready until the a and p part, there are nothing else I could have done. I just hope my gpa carries me and a 84.8 is good enough at least to get me on a waitlist!

Any tips for the a/p portion? Was it a lot of hormones? What tricked you guys?

@aschwei dont worry last year the bottom 5 was a 3.46 and 80 something

I honestly don't even remember the questions because I didn't have a clue about them. I mean it was a bit of everything but things I never learned about, just keep studying, there were a few hormone questions. the a and p portion is only 25 questions so it is tough to get an A in it if you miss a couple. I got 6 wrong and that was a 74

i did have a pink hoddie but i was in room 130 :)

I am just as worried as you are aschwei...

As far as I can remember there was lot on hormones :/ sadly I wasn't ready enough for the ap question!

April could't come faster!!!!!

@aschwei and @a.carolina, I think you'll both be okay! You guys have a very good GPA so that should carry you both pretty well!

@Rachel, like the others have said, there were quite a few questions on hormones. I also remember some questions about glands and their location and a few about the different cavities (thoracic, abdominal, etc).
