Hi all!
I was wondering if anyone has registered to take their HESI in the fall and are planning to apply to Macomb's nursing program for the 2013 admission cycle!?
Let me know!
Honestly, I just want to be the first 40 (60?) accepted so I can start this August! But by the looks of it, a lot of students have some pretty "high" scores like myself! Maybe they aren't so high and it's now considered average Lol! All I remember from getting an A in micro and anatomy was slaving over books at the library for 8 hours. Ugh it better of paid off or 7 months straight studying for the HESI it's all over with now but the countdown for letters begin.
For what it's worth, a friend of mine ranked within the top 15 for last year's cycle, and they applied with a 3.92 and a 94. A friend of this person had a similar GPA and a HESI score of 81, still made it into the 155. Based on the formula they allegedly use to calculate your ranking (GPA x 25/2 + HESI/2), that covers a pretty broad range of scores. For example, a 3.3 GPA with a 94 on the HESI would still fall into that range.
I think those of you with 4.0's and HESI scores in the 90s can safely bet on not only getting in but being pretty high up on the list. I know most of you will probably still be concerned, but with everyone re-reading every comment looking for information to confirm their hopes, I figured I'd share this in the hope that it would help calm some people out there, like the 6 people reading this thread as I type this out.
That being said, I don't know about everyone else's experiences, going through the prerequisites, but the vast majority of people I came across who were planning on applying to the nursing program did not have 4.0's. Every counselor I spoke to made the nursing program sound as if it were impossible to get into, tried to convince me not to take A+P and micro together over the summer, told me I should probably apply in 2014 due to deciding on nursing halfway through the fall semester of 2012, etc.
I'm thinking they do that in order to prevent the majority of the people in classes I spoke to with a B in A+P and a B in micro from getting their hopes up. Of course, I may be wrong, but that's my two cents. ?

I am afraid they messed up my GPA too! Even though I have calculated it a million times that is one of my biggest fears. haha
