Macomb Community College Nursing Questions

U.S.A. Michigan

Can anyone provide details as to how the program works? Any info. at all would be appreciated.

Are each set of classes equal to 1/2 of a regular semester (each class is worth approximately 1.5-2.5 credits)?

I just squeaked in (#158) so most likely I will not be starting until March 2011. I have already completed all of my degree requirements above the nursing classes - any suggestions as to which classes to take to go towards a bachelors degree while I am waiting?

Also, I am very excited and would like to start buying supplies or studying before my start - any suggestions would be appreciated! I can't wait until May 19th!

You have to go in in person. They won't tell you anything like that over the phone, ever. I went to the selective admissions area when I was paying for my seat, and they told me.

Lau,

I know how you feel. I just went through all this so I culd plan what to take over the summer.

Check the oakland website. They have a program with all of the Macomb transfer info spelled out. Just beware when you call the nursing office, they can be rude and slow to respond.

MSU, Rochester college, EMU, are some other school that have rn-bsn completion.

I'm not ure what's up with Wayne state. I think UM is also changing their program right now too.

Yeah, it took me 4 different phone numbers at Wayne to get someone to answer the phone, and then rudely answer my question. I guess I'm just going to take some of the general ed. classes that UDM says I would need, since they're pretty basic and probably needed towards anyone's BSN (but take them at MCC).

Hi All,

Just wanted to drop in becuase I had a question. When you get in to MCC there are four different start dates correct? I am applying for Fall 2011 so would that mean that if I were to get in there is a possibility that I may not start until January or March of 2012?

that is correct It is possible that you would not start until mar. or jan of 2012

Hmm thats a bit discouraging. I have been setting this plan up with myself for the last year about starting nursing school by Fall 2010 which isn't going to happen due to me still needing a few classes so now I am hoping for 2011. So that means that I have to rank near the top to actually start in 2011. Kind of discouraging since that would mean I wouldn't graduate until 2014 if I didn't score high enough and that would put me out of high school 10 years by then :( BLAH!

You can get into the August classes you just have to talk with the staff at macomb after your orientation. They want the best for you and them. I am out of High School ten years also don't fret!!!!!!!!! My sister didn't finish until she was 32. She is 12 years strong at St. John Main!!

Thanks! Its always nice to know I am not the only one alone in my struggles. I am trying to stay head strong in my studies so that I am accepted the first time around without having to retake classes! I think thats why I have been taking my time. I don't want anything holding me back from starting as soon as possible!

I got in this year with a a- across the board for all three classes and an 87.4 on the hesi stay strong you will get there !

I wouldn't necessarily say you can get an August start Murph. Thats where the ranking comes in, and most people want to start in August, but only 40 can. They want the best for everyone, but it IS first come, first serve to those with higher rankings and all their classes finished. For instance, I would love an August start, but since I'm 151 out of 159, I pretty much have no say as to when I can start.

I had a question about all the added expenses. I know we need the nurse pac, but do you have to get uniforms right away? Do you wear them for classes, or just when clinicals start? I hear the "Dove".ones are expensive.

I don't know this for sure but from what I have heard, you do need them right away for clinicals. I visited the dove website but couldn't get too far because you need a school code to see what our prices would be. However, you can see the prices for non-school scrubs and they seem to be around $80 and up.

I can't wait for the meeting on the 19th so that I can start preparing! I have already started getting some goodies from my kids and husband for Mother's Day and my birthday is next month!

I am an organizational/planning nerd and I am ready to get this show on the road! lol
