LVN then work as CNA or caregiver?

Published

I'm LVN here in California (Central Valley to be exact) I just past my boards last May then my name was appeared at the website last July 11. Since I received the letter that I passed I start looking and applying here. i start applying last june 6 till now.

I have active CNA license. Should apply as CNA or work as caregiver even I am a license nurse??? I'm sad I still waiting for interview calls. But still no job offers. Im planning to apply as CNA coz I work before in a Nursing and Rehab. i did volunteering in hospital and some private home nursing in our country. i have BSN but CA have their concurrency issues thats why I got denied to seat for nclex RN thats why I took nclex PN.

And I dont know if my resume is steong enough to enter the very competitive nursing job hunting here in CA.

I graduated BSN last 2009 (in our country)

work as Private Home Nurse (May-2009-Aug 2011)

I came here in US (Sept 2011)

Volunteer as childworker (feb 2012-march 2012)

Volunteer at Hospital (March 2012-aug 2012)

work as CNA (sept 2012--april 2013)

Took my nclex (may 2013)

Passed (june 2013)

See my name at website (july 2013)

Am I too late for job hunting thanks :(

I'm confused by your post.

You do understand that an LVN/LPN is a NURSE.

You will not even be looked at for NA jobs because you are overqualified. Caregiver? As in a home help/nanny position?

How would it be "too late"?

Finding a job in today's economy is hard work and takes time.

Okay I am sorry. Yeah I understand that I am a nurse my point is.. My family is dragging and nagging me to look for a job amd saying why should not work as CNA and caregiver for the meantime Im waiting for a nurse job. i am unemployed now since May up to now :(

I think what you are asking is whether it would be OK to work/whether anyone would hire you as a CNA while you continue looking for an LVN position. Is that what you wanted to know?

Yeah do you think I can do that?? My family dont understand that applying and getting a job is a very hard and long process :(

You should contact your States Board of Nursing to make sure you can. In some states this is illegal. Also you have some issues with your grammar so ensure someone else reviews your resume and cover letters before you submit them.

Hi maria!! Uhmm I'm here at central valley like kings county near Fresno-Hanford CA to be exact. From here to Sta.Monica is 3.5 hours I think. But if your sister is a DON and can help me? Why not? I can relocate though. By the way thanks for the offer. I really appreciate it. :)

by the way, Where she working at? I already did tons of applications here walk in and online apply. Still no job calls and offers yet :(

Sorry for grammars. My charge nurse cousin of mine fix my resume hope its okay now to pass to employers. I know being LVN then work as CNA is contraindicated. Just my family is the one who's forcing me to do it and I dont like talking back to my parents and explaining I cant do that.

Hi!! i am 3.5 hours away from Sta. monica but I can relocate though. Its very overwhelming that your sister is a DON. Are they hiring? This is my email coz I can't send PM [email protected]. Maybe I can apply online?

If she can help me? Thats really a blessing and I really Appreciate it.

Thank you Maria :)

I'm doubtful that there is an employer out there who will hire you as a CNA knowing that you're a newly licensed LVN. They will assume (rightly so) that you are only interested in working for them because you can't find an LVN job and that you will ditch them as soon as you do find one.

I know.... Im thinking that once they hired me as CNA they gonna absorb me as LVN once theres opening. But yeah as you said and others said. Its too tough to work as CNA while you're LVN. Sighs! :(
