LVN or Surgical tech field...can't decide.

Published

I want to pursue the nursing field so being an lvn would be best to put me in head start for that. I am considering the surgical field also because i like it a lot and then i already have my basics so I would be done with the ST field in less than a year.

However after doing tons of research on both fields I read that after a while the ST field starts to get boring and you're very limited.

I don't know what to do, if i do the lvn thing i think it would be kind of scary because i get really bad anxiety when it comes to being around a lot of people and having to talk to new people. I know i need to get over it, so maybe this would be the right push.

So help me out guys, do i go into the lvn field and let all the time i spent doing my basics be a waste or go into the surgical tech field and its not a waste but i might end up bored eventually.

Ohhh ya and is it true that if your an lvn you mostly only get hired in nursing homes? I read that somewhere. I live in Houston, Texas by the way and I did a job search for hiring positions in the lvn field and there is very little as opposed to the st field.

Please help me and thanks sooooo much!!!

my math skills aren't that great. you think i can survive nursing school?

LVN is nursing as well... :whistling:

You need to decide what career path you want to pursue; if you want to not be "limited" in terms of scope, then your best bet is BSN.

Right now, the job market is tight, so remember that in terms of pursing nursing; there is no nursing shortage; however, If you want to get into this business; shadow a nurse (or two or three), focus on your coping skills in terms of your self-described anxiety, as well as find an educational path you want to choose; nursing math is basic algebra, so be prepared to hit the books and find ways to understand math, regardless of what path you may choose; it's a pretty essential way of life...not scary at all. ;)
