lvn to rn programs (excelsior)??

Published

i am an lvn in the bay area. i just got a great job full time and won't really allow me to go back to school for my rn. i have heard about excelsior college online and am hesitant to enroll. has anyone gone through the program? any other suggestions besides the 30 unit option which will probably take about 2 years right?? help anyone :crying2:

Should I go straight for my BSN or just my ADN?? How long did it take you to finish? Thanks again for the advice.

Actually, since Excelsior allows students to work at their own pace, your "2 and 4 year degree" can be done in a few months or stretched out over several years.

Consequently, one might tend to think of them as the ADN or the BSN or the MSN......

Indiana state univeristy is offering an lpn/vn to bsn program that is all online. My DH is enrolling in the program and you should have no problems with Ca's BON

Here is the contact info to get more information about it.

That is the reason my husband decided to go with ISU when he found out about their program. It's new and he will meet all clinical requirements through them because he will do them at the hospital where he works with some of the bsn's who work there (no expensive CPNE) It meets all State's education and clinical requirements including California's and Washington's.

Seems to be a bit less expensive than Excelsior too and you can get federal student loans.

The California Board of Registered Nurses no longer recognizes Excelsior. If you registered before December 2003 like I did the board says it is ok we can finish and get the ADN license, but that's it. No more Excelsior in CA. The 30 unit option shouldn't take two years if that's the case get in an RN program it takes two years to complete.
Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

Well I see that you are a LVN and since Texas does not have a official bay I am assuming you live in CA. You might want to check your BON prior to enrolling in Excelsier.I dont think they will let you sit for the NCLEX, if that is your xchool of choice.

Is this a nontraditional program? I just visited their website (very impressive), but don't find any sort of nontrad or "online" section, at least not for nursing school.

Excelsior's big advantage is being able to earn your degree while having a life.
