LVN to RN programs: Excelsior

Published

Has anyone tried Excelsior college online? I am currently looking into attending Excelsior, however, I do not know anyone who has attended. I live near Austin, TX and dont have cannot go to a school where I have to spend a lot of time away right now. I am a single mom currently working as an LVN in home health and at an MD's office to try and survive . I so desire to go back for my RN right now.

you can take nc 1 and nc 2 without enrolling....

does this seem good?

$50 isn't much.

what books would you recommend for at least the first 2 exams? ive seen ppl post, dont buy any books, others say buy old books, others swear by study guides, etc...

i want to make good grades and not "just pass", otherwise i'd stick only to the study guides.

thanks in advance

II dropped my pen on the floor. I started to reach down to get it and stopped halfway, horrified. I was going to get a paper towel to pick it up and throw it away when the evaluator rolled her eyes, picked it up, dusted it off, and handed it back to me saying, "There, it's clean. Y'all are so paranoid."

Do you remember her name? I heard KL's voice in my head while reading your post! :wink2:

i have used these and found them to be very comprehensive. one thing to note is they are $9.95 if you purchase them separately. however, if you don't like them you are out $50 bucks. my personal opinion is they are probably the best study guides you can get. i think what you use to study with this depends on you and how comfortable you already are with nursing theory. i used study guides only and only referred to a book once. there are several people on here they tell you to buy all the books and read them. you may want to combine the 2 until you get a feel for what works for you.

I know some people that did the EC program and were not very happy with it, in fact one of them gave up and went to a traditional school. I am in the process of bridging at a traditional school. They really havn't taught anything I didn't already know, but I think the clinical experience is very good for us. However, I will tell you it is SO hard to go back to being a student after working in the field! Good luck!!!!
