Lvn to RN bridge at SJVC?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Hello I just graduated from my LVN program a couple weeks ago and am applying for bridge programs in January (after I hopefully pass my NCLEX ) anyway I need some opinions please...I'm thinking of going to this private school in my area, San Joaquin Valley College. It's transferable so I'll be able to get my bachelor's after, it's only 11 months long and starts in April of '10 which is the soonest I'll be able to start a program. It's also only 2 days a week so I'll be able to work full time while I do this, which I really have to do. The downside is the cost, the program is around $30k (yikes!) but they have no wait list and I'll graduate sooner than any other school I go to. My alternatives are to apply to 2 other community colleges, one of which doesn't have a required number of applicants they have to take, and you have to have a perfect GPA to get accepted, (which I don't have) and the other one which is an hour away and I wouldn't be able to start either of them til Sept of next year. Just graduating from my lvn program has been such a long road and I'm getting older (almost 30) and really just want to get this outta the way so I can start making real money and be done with school, and have some babies already! So has anyone gone to SJVC or heard how good it is? I searched and couldn't find much. Anyone think it's really stupid of me for paying so much for an RN program? Thanks!

Hi, I am thinking of applying to SVJC also. I am curious if you decided to attend and if you have what has your expierience been like?? I am tired of waiting to get into my local community college RN program. I just recieved my second regection letter yesterday and I need to find another option. The program I applied to is a lottery selection so I have no idea when I will be getting in. I would love to hear from you. Thank you.:specs:

SJVC's LVN-to-RN transition bridge program is fairly new, and has only been in existence for a handful of years. Therefore, it has not had that long of a chance to build a reputation in the academic community.

where is this school located? the lvn to rn program in OC is 72,000...30,000 doesnt sound half as bad. I also just graduated LVN school still waiting for my results!!! it sucks!

SJVC is located in Visalia, California.

Hi everyone!

I am an LVN. I have all of the prereq's. I called San Joaquin also. I live in Texas and would have to relocate for the program. I am not sure about 2 days a month for 11 months @$32,990. I am thinking about the quality of the education. They have a good pass rate. I checked them out on the website. I called several colleges and there are crazy wait lists. I have less than a month to make a decision. Is there anyone that is definitely going to do this program?

That price for an RN program is a bargain if you can't go the cc route. Compare it to >$132,000 for a BSN from West Coast College! I suggest you sacrifice and do it. Good luck.

]Personally I don't think it's stupid at all - the rewards outweighs the consequences in your situation. My brother-in-law actually signed up for their Respiratory Therapy program @ SJVC Rancho Cucamonga campus a few days ago. Tuition price? $67,000. If you have this opportunity in hand, I say don't hesitate and take it, especially if it's just $32,000 that's standing in between you becoming an RN. Plus, if you qualify for financial aid the price should be cheaper. Anywho, best of luck with your decision!

do the requirements for sjvc require completed GE at a CC?

$32,000 may seem like a lot, but for an RN program it's one of the best priced private school programs I've heard of.

Some schools are charging $29K for an LVN program! I would do it if I lived closer.

There are other private trade school LVN-to-RN programs in Texas. There's Galen in San Antonio, and Dallas Nursing Institute. You do not need to move out of the state to attend school necessarily.

I live in TX and attend a private LPN-to-RN program in Oklahoma City.
