LVN pay rate (primarily East Texas/Dallas area)

Just wondering what I can expect realistically when I graduate.. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I'm a fairly new LVN grad and was hired onto my very first nursing job today. I was offered $17.75 hourly to work in a nursing home in the Mid-Cities area (Euless, Bedford, Hurst), and that rate will increase once my temporary Texas license becomes permanent.

:nurse: CONGRATULATIONS!!! and thanks for the reply

Well I was speaking to someone (a realtor) from dallas today and he said that he is an LPN/LVN and that he does per diem sometimes to make extra money and per diem he makes about $20-$22 an hour depending on the facility. I know one facility he said he does per diem at is medical city. So when you get some experience you can start working per diem at other facilities.

I was offered a $21 PRN rate per hour as an LVN but since I'm a newbie, I would need more experience before taking a per diem or PRN job.

Be advised that PRN and per diem jobs offer no benefits, hence the higher hourly rate offered.

Oh I know that they offer no benefits. That's why I mentioned that he fact that he does it when he needs "extra" money.

In my area LTC starts out around 15-16 plus night diff at a lot of places, the one hospital here that does still hire LVN's told me last year that a new grad will start out at 12. NOT for me. Agencies start aroun 20 or so. they usually want you to have 6months to a year exp though. the cost of living here is not nearly as high in dallas though.

Planning to more to the plano area.Any info. about LPN/LVN rates in the nursing home could give me a ballpark. Please, anyone.:nurse:

plano area pays about 19 to 21 hour for LTC
