LVN Endorsement in Texas

Published

To whom it may concern

Hello,

I have a question about the endorsement license.

I am a foreign nurse RN from Cameroon, and living in Texas since 2006.

I applied for LVN Board of California, and after a long procedure I was eligible to take the Board exam.

I took the NCLEX LVN and passed November 2013. My question is:

Will I be able to endorse my California licence in Texas license, so I can work as a LVN in Texas?.

I already took the online Nursing Jurisprudence Exam Prep Course. :)

Did you obtain your LVN license in CA by alternate method/equivalency? The CABVNPT is pretty specific that an LVN license obtained by alternate method (not graduating from a practical/vocational nursing program) is only valid in CA and not eligible for endorsement to other states.

Per Texas BoN only those who graduated from an approved practical/vocational nursing program. If you were educated overseas as a registered nurse you are not eligible to apply for an LVN license by examination or endorsement.

So I cannot be an Lvn In Texas?

What does this paragraph mean, from the website?

Note: If you were educated as a Registered Nurse, then you are not eligible to apply for an LVN license unless you meet the below exception.

LVN endorsement applicants who meet all of the following criteria qualify for an exception to Board Rule 217.5 (a)(1):

  • Must have graduated from an approved LVN nursing program
  • Must have passed the appropriate VN/PN NCLEX Exam approved by the TBON (so no Board Constructed)
  • Must have a clean disciplinary record (no disciplinary action ever on any other nursing license)
  • And must have worked actively as a VN/PN a minimum of ten (10) years before applying to Texas for LVN Licensure.

Not unless you graduated from a school of vocational nursing.

California is very specific that an LVN license obtained by alternate/equivalent education/experience is not eligible for endorsement to any other state.

Why not apply for RN licensure if you were educated as an RN in Cameroon?

You have to graduate from an approved vocational nursing program ( not RN program) AND work as an LVN in CA for 10 years. Since you obtained a CA LVN license in 2013, you would have to attend and graduate from an approved LVN program and work in CA as an LVN for at least 10 years.

If you got a job in CA as an LVN and graduated from an LVN program, you would not be eligible to endorse to TX until 2024.

This is why it is recommended that IENs apply to the state where you plan to live & work not just the most convenient or easiest state.

which state will accept the CA LVN licence?

which state will accept the CA LVN licence?

California.

It seems you used method 3 to qualify. This license is not endorsable to other states

From CA BVNPT

Please note that achieving licensure via the equivalency method may limit the licensee's ability to be hired as a licensed vocational nurse or psychiatric technician. No other state accepts licensees who have been licensed via this method. In addition to licensure, some health care facilities within California require that their potential employees be graduates of approved nursing or psychiatric technician programs. Such facilities will not hire licensees who have achieved licensure via the equivalency method. If you have questions about licensure in another state, please contact that state's board of nursing. If you have questions about the hiring practice of a particular health care facility in California, please contact that facility.

I agree with JustBeachyNurse, why not just go for the RN license in TX? If you're able to pass your educational requirements for the CA LVN exam, you should have little to no problems in getting approved in TX to take the NCLEX-RN.

If i pass the CA RN exam. Will i be able to endorse in to TX, and work as an RN? I already applied to CA RN Board Exam.

Because I already applied in CA RN.
