I'm based in Southern California and will be starting a one year LVn program this Fall. My future goal is to get my ADN and work as a nurse case manager.
So my question to you all is it possible to do prerequisites while in LVn school? Please help me on this. I know that it can be an overload, but I don't have any children and receiving unemployment. I also will be filing for WIA, grants, etc. as well. Thank you in advance.
@vintagemotherI came back from orientation today for the WIA program, and it looks like I have to go through a process. First, I need to create a resume and job search to show that I'm active in finding a job. I need to attend two workshops which my case worker advised 'resume' and 'networking' workshop. After consistently job seeking with no success, THEN my case worker will look into funding for job training. Is that how the process steps go?
That's how it went in my state. I believe it's standard unless it was a high volume planned company lay off then the employer is required to pay some of the cost of job training. IMHO it's getting more strict because people saw WIA as "free money" not job training for those unemployed or underemployed to find a new career as their current job was eliminated (proven by searching for a job for x weeks while collecting unemployment). I had a form to fill out that asked for every job I applied to whether online, email or in person and unemployment verified my statements.

Thanks for letting me know :) :)
I wasn't expecting this, but if it's worth it, then I'm willing to follow the procedures.

Thanks for sharing :) :)
yes I did receive a paper that needs to be completed with proof of the jobs I've applied. I'm glad the case worker was helpful to run the process down to me. He was nice and cooperative.
Even if WIA does not accept you, you can get on the CTB program. The benefit to the CTB program is that you are not required to look for work and you get unemployment benefits for 1 year instead of 6 months. However, you do not get help with tuition. I was on CTB for a year and I just got cut off on 3/29. I graduate in June so I applied for TANF (I have a 10 year old).
Sorry tasha92337 I got super busy and ended up not replying to you PM. As far as taking additional calls during you LVN program...Yeah, that a NO GO! The program is hard enough on its own, I could not even fathom trying to complete Micro, or A&P while in nursing school You are jut setting yourself up to fail. you might and that a strong MIGHT be able to swing Psych or Life Span Psych if it's online but I doubt it.
I'm going to message you my number. Call me anytime. Its much easier to talk with you over the phone then it is to log on here. I can talk and multi-task lol
