Hi everyone,

Just wanted to start a thread for Stanford LPCH’s new RN residency for Spring 2020. Application opened Oct 1 and closes Nov 1.

I personally haven’t submitted mine yet, but wondering what units you are applying to. Also, if you don’t mind sharing any info about yourself or what you feel may help your app stand out (i.e. peds preceptorship, went to school in bay area) I’d appreciate it!

They have interviews for maternity next week too ? so she said end of next week most likely (unless they quickly choose some candidates this week for a second interview). There are about 60 candidates for 4 slots in maternity.

Dang ok ? well it's gonna be a stressful week! Thanks for the info, and hope your interview went well!

Are you still eligible for this new grad program if you have 2 months of RN experience? I got an invite to interview but I already have 2 months of acute care RN experience with adults (but I was on orientation – I have not been on my own yet). I couldn't find anything about it on their website and HR hasn't responded to me either.

4 spots for maternity is better than just the 2 spots they're only offering for NICU ?

I’ll bet if you had it in your resume and they still offered you an interview, it’s ok ? what unit?

I didn't have it on my resume yet because I got offered a job between the time I applied for Stanford and waiting for an interview ? and for the acute care units!!

Anyone know how many spots there are for critical care?

For those of you applying for the maternity unit - yesterday was the last day of first round interviews and they sent out second round interview invites last night for next Wednesday 1/15. They said in the email that they were also going to be "small group interviews," which seems like a departure from how the second round was done for previous cohorts. If anyone has any insights as to what the second round interview might entail I'm all ears!

I think you will be fine. It says you could have graduated as early as 12/01/2018 and still be eligible so it wouldn't be surprising to have some experience. Most places consider you a new grad if you have less than a year experience.

Wondering if any recent grads have gotten their permission to test yet and when you applied? I applied 11/08 and they have been processing that time frame for two weeks now and still nothing! Starting to stress and wondering if anyone is in a similar place.

Sure! There were 4 new grads, and 6 managers/educators but only 4 of them actually asked questions. At the very beginning we were asked to chat with a partner then introduce them to the group. Questions fell into 4 basic categories: QI, EBP, Teamwork, Compassion(?) and each new grad got 1 question from each category. All the questions in each category were relatively similar but none were the exact same and they were all pretty much "Tell me about a time when..." nothing crazy out of left field. Also, know the Professional Practice Model! Good luck!

Thank you so much! This is very helpful. What does QI stand for? and what is an example of an EBP question they asked?

QI = Quality Improvement. One question is how you've incorporated EBP into your care and what was the outcome (same goes for how you've incorporated a QI initiative). If you're not already a part of the RN Interview Tools Facebook page I would highly recommend joining, they have a lot of good tips.
