ltc surveyor as a job

I have spent my nursing career in LTC, having spent the past 4 years as a DNS. I am considering re-locating to a new state. and wonder about working as a surveyor. Does anyone know how surveyors are paid for travel, meals, lodging? Does it really matter if I transition from one state to another? Thanks for any input!

I've seen the job announcement for that position in CA and must admit I was intrigued. However, I don't remember any of the particulars. If you would like to relocate, I'll bet there are openings still in CA. Sounds to me like you have the qualifications.

Qualifications are state specific, so are expences. I work for the State Survey Agency. Went from the provider side to the regulator side and took a major pay cut. The biggest benefit from switching has been being able to quit taking ulcer medications, antianxiety medications and antidepressants. Knowing that when I am done with a survey, I'm done, is wonderful. Don't have to worry about my relief for the next shift or did I get that MDS done on time. I do miss the resident contact but I don't miss the administrative staff or disgruntal families. If it is what you want to do, then pursue it. Can be rewarding, afterall, we are all in it to improve the quality of life in long term care.
