LTC nurse wants a new job.

hello everyone,

my husband has new job and he will be starting in may in another state. i'm very excited about the move. the problem is i have work in long term care for 3 year after getting out of nursing school. (mostly skilled nursing) i thought this is an opportunity for me to move out of ltc and do something else. the truth is i'm tired of ltc, i'm tired of working short, long hours, cna's disrespecting you. do you think i can get a job in the hospital or doing something else other than getting stuck in the nursing home? any advice will help!

I would imagine since u have some experience, you wont have a problem getting a hospital job

Yes, you will be able to get a job. If you do a search, you can see alot of others have posted about this. Depending on the area, it will be easier or harder than some. Depending on weather you are an rn or lpn too.

Yes...you have experience in skilled care. If I was a NM, I would be glad to hire you for Med-Surg or Step-Down! Good luck! :nurse:

No reason you cant get a different job in a different area of nursing, just beccause you were in LTC. In our facility we are practically post op, running a respiratory unit, the only thing we dont do is cardiac monitoring! Just be sure to state that in your resume.

But.. dont think that all those issues don't exist in another setting. Aides will disrespect you, you will have long hours, and sometimes work short. The grass isn't greener on the other side, its just mowed by a different landscaphing company on a different angle.

I dont think you would have a problem getting a job on a least a med surg unit..the hospital enviornment is a lot different than the LTC enviornment. As a nurse that works in both settings, I am more tired after working in a hospital setting vs a LTC setting. Any setting that you work in, will pose problems...good luck
