U.S.A. Nevada

hi everyone!

i got accepted to touro nevada today and wanted to know if any students/anyone knew any specifics about the program? i.e. class/clinical scheduling, academic work load, curriculum, and is as ridiculously as complicated/difficult as the faculty made it seem during my interview...i have said before that they made it seem way too tough or either really good, i am still not sure which one to go with! i am excited though and interested in any information, which anybody can pass on! i was told about this specific camp thing that they are doing right before the july start, what is that all about? i still have not been told too much info about it from the college.

well thanks for your insights!

I got a letter in the mail yesterday, and I start Feb 28th! So excited :) Anyone else hear back yet?

I got accepted too and am very excited about a new journey.

Congratulations everyone!

Quick question though for those already in classes. I am trying to figure out what the schedule is for spring. I found a holiday schedule that seems to say that we have no class between April 16-26. I tried to confirm dates with G, but of course I haven't gotten a response. Do any of the nursing students already in school know for sure that we are out of classes those days? I'm trying to plan a trip out of the country so I'd really appreciate a response :)

Thank you!!!

L

Lolaelizabeth25,

Yes, there will be no classes. Touro observes the Jewish holidays (April 16-26 is passover).

I'm very confused, especially now that I see some people got admitted. I got an email yesterday stating that there would not be a cohort for Spring.

Hello XXXXXX,

We are pleased that you have chosen to pursue your bachelor’s degree in nursing at Touro University Nevada. We are writing to inform you that we will not begin a new cohort of students in March. The BSN Admissions Committee will begin reviewing applicants in June 1, 2011 for the next cohort. At this time, we encourage you to submit all your documents by the established admissions deadline. The Office of Admissions will contact you in regards to your admissions application and keep you informed as to when you will be reviewed by the Nursing admissions committee.

Our primary goal at Touro University Nevada is to ensure that our students receive the best possible education and have the greatest opportunity to be successful as professionals in the health care field. The Nursing department is working with the State Board of Nursing to enhance our curriculum to better prepare students to meet and pass the licensure examinations required by the Board. In addition, the Nursing department has recently made changes to their admissions standards by raising the entrance grade point average to 3.0. We are confident that the changes we make will ensure that your experience here at Touro will be as rewarding as possible.

We hope that you will be able to join Touro as part of the next BSN cohort. Feel free to call 702-777-1750 if you have questions or concerns.

I'm fairly angry. Do you think they'll refund the application fee? I mean they're not actually reviewing applications anymore.

Also, they've moved the goal post; I don't have a cumulative 3.0 GPA (cGPA 2.82, post-bacc GPA: 3.82 x 37 units, last 60 semester units: 3.52), and I've already paid NursingCAS for admission for fall also. Can they really do that during an open application period?

Any advice / insight / input would be much appreciated.

I think you should request a refund, I am just waiting for the fall semester answer. I find this absolutely ridiculous and was very upset as well.

Good luck!

Yeah sorry everyone...it's true. The pass rate was really bad last year new and they aren't gonna be able to admit new students until at least this fall after the march class gets better results in the boards. Our was just as surprising to us !! Now my class are the guinea pigs :(

Sorry . Writing from my phone.

Hello,

Anyone planning on applying to Touro Nevada BSN for Fall 2011? I'm a little concern with their last two years nclex passing rate (forget exact year but one was 45% and the other was 70%). I called Nevada State Board of Nursing and they told me I'll be taking a risk if I were to go with Touro because they had two consecutive years of nclex rate less than 80% which is the minimum requirement of Nevada BON. Touro BSN program is currently under conditional approval only which means that they are being watched carefully. If Touro doesn't improve their nclex rate to 80% or higher for 2011, Nevada BON will completely cut off Touro BSN program. I don't know what to do. I love the fact that the program is only 16 months for a bachelor degree but I don't want to spend all this time and money finishing the program and then find that California BON wouldn't recognize Touro BSN program as an accredited program if their nclex rate fails for 2011. Luckily, I got accepted into an Associate program in California and it's scheduled to start next month. To be honest, I rather finished with a BSN. Anyone have any suggestions?
